may '26 drabble challenge | day 5: doctor character: eren kruger

If you want to save Mikasa and Armin, and everyone else—

Kruger jolts awake with a scream.

Two blurry figures immediately pervade his vision. Their voices are barely audible over the static in his ears.

"He's awake. Let the doctor know."

A few minutes pass before another figure emerges. They check his pulse and examine his pupils.

"What's your name?"

"Eren. Kruger."

"Do you know where you are?"

"A… hospital?"

"Do you remember how you got here?"

Kruger shakes his head.

"You were found unconscious near Lake Fritz."

That's four hours away from his hometown. How did he get there?

being in love with eren sucked your soul out, it took everything from you, because all you did was give, and give, and give. giving him your love, and your care, and your patience, fighting for his life on the battlefield.

each time your heart beat for him you felt it beat a little weaker, the only thing keeping it going was the little spark of hope; hope that he'll go back to how he used to be, that he'd come back home and stop this stupid act.

but being in love with eren was also intoxicating,

you could feel it running through your blood, going through each cell of your body one by one, consuming you.

you needed him, the real him, not this new version of eren which made everything so confusing. this couldn't have been how he was the whole time, right? not him, not your eren. he couldn't have been this.. mean.

but you would never get him back, and you knew that, deep down in your soul. you simply knew, like how the moon knows to orbit the earth.

so you didn't fight back, when one of zeke's titans that transformed from the wine started making it's way toward you.

you felt it eat you, eat every part of a woman who didn't know anything but how to love, and your eyes closed.

You cracked open your eyes, wincing at the stinging light. A pair of black boots came slowly into focus. Dragging your gaze up, you found them attached to Erwin Smith.

You scrambled back as much as you could on battered limbs, huddling against the wall like it could hide you from the Commander of the Scout Regiment. Every briefing, all your training had told you he was more monster than man- to be avoided at all costs.

You heard a low laugh over the rushing in your head. The bastard was smiling down at you. He held out his hand.

Reiner looked older, and it suited him. He’d grown into his broad chest and strong chin, new smile lines around his mouth. Nostalgia and desire swirled in your gut.

He caught your gaze and came over, fast enough to make you hope. He held out his hand. You remembered the feeling of those hands on your waist behind the bleachers, between your legs in the backseat of his car-

“Remember me?”

He laughed the same laugh you’d once loved. “How could I forget?”

The fever made Kuchel's eyes shine. She wanted water, her throat a honed knife. She cupped Levi's cheek in her burning palm.

"Out there, water falls from the sky." Levi listened carefully. Always careful, her boy. "All you could want, fresh and clean. It's sweet." She laughed, cracked lips curved. "You can just open your mouth and catch it."

Her gaze slid away and Levi ducked to follow, trying to keep her. "I'll get it for you Mama." He covered her trembling hand with his little one.

But when he finally found the rain, all he could taste was salt.
