Yesterday I was re-organizing the basement storage area when I came across more than 40 of these medals. After looking a little closer I realized they are from the Ancient Order of United Workmen or the A.O.U.W.
The AOUW, established in the 1860s, was a fraternal society that provided financial protection to the working class after the Civil War. The fraternity incorporated many Free Mason symbols as seen with the Anchor and Badge emblems.
These badges come from Lodge No. 97 in Oberon, North Dakota. The organization nationally dissolved in 1952 and became Pioneer Mutual Life Insurance Company in North Dakota.
If anyone as has anymore information about Lodge No. 97 in Oberon I would love to see it!
