hi everybody the apex pinging system is truly phenomenal like one of the greatest tools to grace video games that I really hope becomes more mainstream I love it I just do
which is why I feel fit to say it could use like just a couple minor tweaks
I just want to be able to order squadmates to go someplace specifically. Just next to (or in an expanded flowering menu) the "Going There" button should also be a "Go there" button in the colors of your respective squad members (Yellow tells blue go here, green tells yellow, blue tells green, yadda yadda). That alone would add a totally new tactical dimension, allowing for tighter coordination in attacks and personal communication between voiceless players. There is also significant meme potential there like imagine pinging a fiery chasm after your buddy steals that hat you really wanted
Along the same line I also wanna ping for an ally's ultimate or tactical - I think this could work using a two-step ping that requires you to look at a highlighted squad member (like a doc drone) where you select an option, then ping where you want it. Ordering tactical smoke when you need it, or begging for a care package, or asking Crypto to recon a spot, or calling an airstrike, or getting a zipline just right... again, the tactical capability is enormous. Could make the first idea work this way too, asking a highlighted target to move somewhere specifically.
A third, perhaps more of a quality of life ping, would be the ability to, from the inventory menu, request types of weapons or even specifics. Would love to be able to ask for a sniper when I'm looking for one, or maybe specifically a Prowler when I've got all the heavy gear and a Select Fire but nothing fun to put it on. It would work just by holding the button, not clicking it, or by pinging the ammunition in your inventory instead of the gun (pinging energy ammo for an energy weapon vs. pinging your P2020 for light ammo)
None of these ideas are very strong deviations from the way the pinging system works now, in fact I think that not only are they perfectly in line with the rules at present but these ideas also actualize the potential of the pinging system as probably the greatest communication tool since people dug up the Rosetta Stone (ok that's a little ambitious). Already you can play the game and do very well without speaking, even pinging - but you could also totally put all three squad members at each door to a building in a coordinated breaching maneuver without using a microphone so
