Zeus 2006 - 2019 (Australian shepherd mix)
At 1 pm today, my parents and I took our dog to the vet to be euthanized. I’ve mentioned before that Zeus has been having some issues walking and breathing. Last night, he stopped eating. Every time I put food in front of his face he would turn away. This morning, he couldn’t even get up from his cushion.
My dad and I had to pick him up and place him in the car. We drove to the vet and they walked us through the process. It’s funny, my dad told me he wasn’t going to stay for the procedure but he stayed with him till the end. Heck, even I thought I was gonna leave the room. But both of us stayed until the end. My mom didn’t cry like we did, but she was sad too. She’s tougher than the both of us heh.
The doctor performed the procedure and we all petted him and told him how much we love him as he lost consciousness. When he finally stopped breathing was when I started to really break down. I was crying on the way there but when he passed was when I finally lost it. I couldn’t stop petting him...So when we got home, we cleaned up all his stuff. I kept his bandana (The same one in the image) I’m gonna take it with me back to my university. It’s odd...I can still hear his breathing and footsteps around the house...
My crying has been on and off for the past few hours now. I’ll be ok. My dog lived a good life filled with love. This was the best thing we could have done for him. We couldn’t watch him suffer anymore. He’s in a better place now.
Rest in peace Zeus. You were the best boi I’ve ever had.
