and i vowed to never feel this way again:

i was at the simulation center today, and my patient presented with blurred vision and headaches; upon neurological assessment, he was found to be confused and incoherent, with severe dysphagia and right hemiplegia among other things.

and since i'm not an MD i couldn't do anything other than phone in and report.

i was allocated 10 minutes for the simulation scenario. My assessments took 4 minutes; the phone call took 1, and I spent the last 5 staring at the clock, because there was nothing i could do other than giving pain meds and the patient was having an effing stroke in front of me

the MD? "well, i'm having a coffee right now. is this urgent?"

I felt so helpless for 5 minutes. 5 minutes -that might not seem alot on tumblr but a lot of things can go wrong medically in 5 minutes. that's a very long time.

and this was just a simulation. it felt like a nightmare in which you're supposed to sprint but your legs can't move.
