i did the sketch for that redraw weeks ago...i hate the og drawing i did last year november so much im so happy to finally have gotten around to redrawing it
So... I'm gonna assume this ship is between America and Iceland, correct?
Honestly? I wasn't aware of this ship until now. And I have two specific reasons why I personally don't ship it.
One reason is that I headcanon America as aroace. So while I ship him platonically with a whole host of characters, I can't bring myself to ship him romantically with someone. I just can't see it.
Another reason is that I've always interpreted Iceland's physical age as being anywhere from fourteen to seventeen (I think seventeen is canon, but I dunno. The "canon" of Hetalia is pretty fluid and overall weird). As a result, I can't really ship Iceland with a character that I know is canonically an adult. I know some people interpret Iceland as an adult, but I just can't see it. To me, he's forever an angsty teenager.
But now that I'm thinking about it, I wonder how that dynamic would work out...

Emil couldn’t keep his jaw from dropping even if he tried. He’s had many surprising things come his way but this takes the cake. Even more so than the day his family surprised him with a birthday celebration. This is ridiculous in so many ways that his mind is sure something isn’t right.
“I mean,” Alfred rubs the back of his head, shuffling from foot to foot in the awkwardness that is Emil not answering him.
“If you don’t want to that’s okay hah I was just. It’s cool ya know?” Alfred backs away from him with his hands up in a no-big-deal kind of way but it is a big deal and Emil manages to snap his jaw shut just in time to think of answer.
“No!” He says reaching out for Alfred to not walk farther away from him.
“I mean..” He can tell his face is heating up and he crosses his arms indignantly. He huffs out with his head turned to the side to maybe make it so Alfred can’t see it.
“That sounds like fun,” He mumbles. Alfred is up close and personal to him in an instant. He takes Emil’s hands from their crossed position to hold them tight.
“Really?” He asks with stars in his eyes. Emil tenses up as he stares at Alfred who just looks far too excited that Emil actually agreed to go on a date with him.
“Yeah?” He squeaks out more in a question. Alfred breathes a sigh of relief but doesn’t let go of his hands. Emil shifts awkwardly and catches sight of Lukas and Tino coming closer their way.
“Let’s go right now. Right now,” He says forcefully and Alfred wastes no time in gripping his hand just a hint tighter and pulling him far away from whatever they should be doing.
“Not that I’m not excited to ditch a meeting and go on a date and all,” Alfred says as he opens the door to a car. Emil slides in a buckles immediately. Alfred runs to the other side and slides into the driver’s seat. The engines rumbles to life.
“But why right now exactly?” He asks. Emil huffs and makes a pouting look out the window. As hard as he tries to keep up his outward persona, it’s hard with Alfred’s genuine attitude.
“Didn’t want Lukas to get in the way,” He mumbles into his hand. Alfred nods his head and doesn’t ask much more which is fine by him. He doesn’t need to explain himself, shouldn’t have to.
“Anything you want to do?” Alfred asks and Emil snaps his eyes to him.
“You asked me out and then didn’t have a plan?” He almost shouts. Alfred waves his hands about quick in a frazzled way before putting them back on the wheel.
“I thought I’d have a day to think about where! I didn’t expect you to want to go now!” He says back equally as loud. Emil smacks his hands to his face and debates asking to go back to the meeting to deal with whatever lecture he’s going to receive for being ‘late’.
“We’ll think of something,” Alfred says all confidence. Emil watches him the corner of his eye, making sure to look back out the window when Alfred catches him looking.
They drive for a while, getting to a more busy side of town before Alfred deems it okay to park. Their meeting conference is always at least half an hour away from any real civilization. Emil is mostly surprised they could have a comfortable silence.
“I know a really good ice cream place around here,” Alfred says when he opens Emil’s door for him. He holds out his hand casually. Emil stares at it then up at Alfred. There’s a simple smile on his face. With much hesitation Emil takes his hand and lets Alfred pull him up. He’s not sure what he expects when Alfred doesn’t let go of his hand to guide him through the streets, but he’s glad Alfred keeps him close. The hold is gentle compared to the personality of the person it belongs to.
Alfred points out random buildings and rattles off random facts about some of them. Emil is only half paying attention but Alfred doesn’t seem to care, or he doesn’t notice. Either is okay in his book.
Alfred opens the door to a little hole in the wall shop. There are so many people packed inside that it doesn’t feel like a hole in the wall place. Alfred places his hands on Emil’s shoulders to guide him to the start of the line.
“There’s not too many flavors,” He says, putting his arms in a more comfortable position around Emil’s shoulders. Though he wants to shove the other off Emil can’t find it in him to do so. Instead he leans just slightly into the hold.
The flavors are exposed in an open glass container with little decorative bits around the edges. Some sorbets are in the corner and a line of toppings line the top of the tank.
“I think I want lemon..” Emil mutters aloud. The sorbet looks tempting with it’s bright color. Alfred hums above him.
“Any others?” Alfred asks and Emil twists to give him a curious look. Alfred shrugs.
“I’m getting like four so,” He laughs happily and Emil takes a moment to pause and think about it. The sizing option are above him and he peers at them. After a small internal debate he decides on a second flavor.
He holds his bowl of double scoop in his hands. The tiny spoon they gave him is cute and changes color when it touches the cold temperature of the ice cream. The lemon and peach flavors mix well together and the tiny cherry on top is sweet.
He just stares dumbly as Alfred orders the sundae, a happy helping of cookie dough, chocolate chip, double fudge, and mint chip, drizzled with hot fudge and topped with two cherries. Alfred just stares at him when he catches Emil looking at him weird.
“What?” He asks plainly as if he didn’t order the heftiest item on the menu. Emil just looks way from him and waits by the door for Alfred to pay for their cups upon his insistence. They find a bench outside and sit in the sun while their ice cream melts and they try to keep the melted parts from being too much.
“That’s so much ice cream,” Emil says deadpan. He’s halfway down with his cup and somehow, so is Alfred though he had at least twice as much. He just kicks his feet happily.
“I’m glad you decided to come with me,” He says with a glop of mint chip ready to be eaten on his tiny spoon. Emil turns his head away to hide a smile at the honest open answer Alfred gives him.
“Like I was so scared that you would say no,” He laughs and Emil glances at him carefully. He never thought a super power like Alfred would be scared to do, anything. He tenses when Alfred looks back at him with a gentle smile and clear honesty in his eyes.
“I really like you, and I’m happy I got to spend this time with you,” He says. Emil can feel the red coming to his checks. He tries his hardest to make it disappear by putting too much ice cream in his mouth. Alfred laughs softly and continues to destroy his ice cream bowl.
With much less hesitance Emil takes Alfred’s hand as he guides them back to the car. The drive back to the meeting hall is slow but peaceful. Everyone else is starting to exit the building when Alfred lets Emil out of the car.
“Maybe we can do this again?” Alfred asks tentatively. Emil wraps his arms around himself but nods.
“It could be fun,” He says. Alfred beams and hugs him tight for just a second. Emil wanders away from him to the car to wait for Lukas. He’s going to get an earful from the other about ditching a meeting. He looks over at Alfred who is bouncing in his step when his own siblings joins up with him. They share a brief moment of eye contact and Emil hides a smile in his hand. Whatever lecture he receives will be worth it.
