((Hi my name is Lilly and I’m so bad at keeping askblogs alive so I guess this an apology and mmmmmayyybe a return post?? Who knows I’m in an info dumping mood and I only seem to like art I draw for others atm lol))
Having the briefest thoughts about what a personification of my city would be like in a hetalia-style thing makes me realise how actually quite impressive/strange it is that the national-personifications are generally accepted as arche/stereotypes, even like at all (...and I know certain aspects of some of them are hotly disputed ^^)
I mean Bristol... if you go back in history you got such a mix -- merchants and smugglers, engineering definitely, boats, Methodists, prison reformers and Abolitionists and, oh yeah, slavery looming over everything, it's undeniable. You've always got a certain amount of civic disorder, I think (1793, 1830, and theen more recently). Nowadays, what are we famous for -- there's a bit of a independent streak, lots of artsy and theatre types around, Gloucester Road and Stokes Croft -- but then a lot of that might not be "real" Bristol some would say... case in point, most of us artsy liberal types don't have The Accent, and might be recent imports. You've got areas that are really culturally diverse and others, like around the school I worked in, that are really not. Some areas ridic posh and expensive, some really not. The University's right in the middle of things. Cider. Hills. Open air festivals. Hot air balloons. Long John Silver.
So... what... a cider-drinking engineering genius who also strums his/her guitar down open mic nights and edits films on their macbook in the cooperative vegan café? and is ... rather confused about their political opinions, or remorseful about the past?
or, like, a pirate..
