How is the relationship between the kings and their queens?

Are they required to be in a romantic relationship or can it be platonic?

Depends on the kingdom!

Clovers - the relationship is not romantic, the queen is appointed based off being the top general in the military. The king has the final say in decisions but the queen has immense influence and power in the country.

The king of clovers (pb: Ivan) is friendly with the queen of clovers (pb: Erzsébet) because he admires her strong will and military might, she also enjoys working with the king and thinks he rules well.

Spades - used to be a romantic position centuries against but now the queen is an appointed position. They are just a figure head for publicity sake, a glorified assistant with very little power and goes to all the appearances the king doesn’t want to go to but has to out of political obligation to demonstrate Royal interest in whatever the event is

The king of spades (pb: Alfred) used the fact that the queen of spades is a position with no power and a lot of monitoring to neutralize a naughty activist making too much noise and gaining too much support. The queen of spades (pb: Arthur) hates the constant eyes of security in him, and the lack of power to enact meaningful change. Also if he has to go to ONE MORE RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY HE SWEARS TO GOD—-.

Hearts - supposed to be romantic although most royal marriages of this sort are arranged (despite being the country of love) so weather or not their are true romantic feelings is up to debate

The king of hearts (pb: Ludwig) and the queen of hearts (pb: kiku) are married and act as such in mixed company. However feel mostly platonic towards each other. Originally they tried romance and sometimes act like friends with benefits even now when they in between extramarital affairs. They are extremely close.

Diamonds- not romantic!! The queen is just the person training to be the king next. A mentor teacher and boss relationship.

The king of diamonds (pb: Francis) is suspicious of the queen (pb Erika) knowing too much and possibly overthrowing him. He wants to hold on to power as long as possible so he doesn’t really teach the queen as much as he probably should. Despite this he isn’t outwardly unkind to her.

GREAT SHIP LOVE IT 😭✨ I don’t have many original thoughts though. To me they have such an

relationship. Maybe Prussia is more smooth with men idk but with Hungary?? He’s like tripping over his own word and feet cause he’s such a simp for her. I used to listen to lots of pruhun playlists on 8tracks so I might be biased but my fav pruhun thing is when they bicker and quarrel but deep down (maybe not as deep down as they think) they love each other and care for each other. <3

Most of the time I ship them in a polyship with Austria but I’ll put him aside for a moment. In a universe without Austria being present I think they would work very well with each other cause Prussia would be less jealous and insecure and Hungary’s heart wouldn’t be pulled in two directions. So in like a PruHun exclusive AU. I love them so much I want to shove them together and watch them make each other better YES make each other better. 😤

Hungary would encourage Prussia to embrace his delicate, feminine side and Prussia would praise Hungary’s strength and courage. They have nothing to hide from each other because they love exactly those traits on each other that the rest of the world sees as flaws 😭😭💖

Other than that I think Hungary frequently makes Prussia shut up by sitting on his face (a tactic he has tried to be mad about but just cannot) and they both want the other to call them daddy.
