Dia dos Namorados (which could be translated as “Lover’s day”) however, has nothing to do with Saint Valentine. Since in February we usually have Carnaval, and the month of June lacked any major commercial holidays, it was decided that such holiday should be celebrated in June.
Coincidentally though, June 12 just so happens to be a day before Santo Antônio (Saint Anthony) day, who is known to be the marriage saint.
