(( I got hungry drawing this oof. And to the first anon, here is some sureño Mexican food that is kinda forgotten but just as good :3c ))
“The country was being torn apart.
Almost quite literally.
The rebels took several cities and managed to receive aid from the Republic of Texas. Two measly boats but it was considered enough for them.
Soon their port was closed and their economy took a huge blow, causing them to declare their separation in 1841.
They claim that the promise between them and the country was broken. Yucatán had joined the federation under a special status as a federated republic. Mexico turning to Centralism understandably angered them.
It was a constant struggle in which they proved themselves as formidable. They managed to defeat the Mexican army who attempted an armed invasion. Now they have a trade blockade that is forcing them to negotiate.
Other states openly spoke out, many have proved themselves. It’s taking a huge blow to the country and its economy.
All managed to do something. But one…
La República del Río Grande.
Formed by the states of Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, they tried to secede but the attempt was stopped soon enough. Even asking for help from Texas couldn’t help them. After a series of defeats, the Commander-in-chief of the insurgents’ army was offered a position as officer in Santa Anna’s army. If they surrendered, no harm would be brought to the former members of the republic. They accepted.
And just like that, the republic was gone and Mexico put down another revolt.
But how much more could they withstand?”
