The material of the pleated skirt I'm wearing is super thick, so there's no flattening of the pleats. My best suggestion would be to wear shorts under your skirt and whenever you sit, sit on the shorts, and not the skirt. That way you'll never be sitting on the pleats. :)

Thanks for the tips! :D I think I have some shorts that will hide reasonably well under the one skirt I do have, and I'll keep an eye out for skirts made with thicker fabrics next time I'm out shopping.
