Name: Aethra Zenith,
Race: Mephistopheles Tiefling,
Mentor: Amisthra Murnor
Party: Gale ♥︎, Astarion, Shadowheart.
Background: Sage
Class: Illusion Wizard.
Prior to Tadpole: Aethra, from a very young age, has learned how to adapt. Abandoned as an infant due to her biological parents' fear they could not raise a child without the ability to see. Aethra was found and then raised by a High Elf wizard named Amisthra, Amisthra was never "mom." The relationship was that of Mentor and student but Aethra never longed for a motherly relationship, in fact she thrives under Amisthra's teachings. She learnt how to percieve the world using the weave, giving her a new way to see, her own unique sight. Aethra was a swift learner surpassing her own mentor at a very young age, she is ambitious and ever curious. She has a constant hunger for knowledge. As she entered the world, having no family name, she chose the surname "Zenith" to represent herself. She wanted something to showcase her ideals, belief in your own ability above all else, to constantly challenge yourself, and to become something greater. If someone can become greater why would they choose not to? When she left home Aethra chose a wizard's tower just like her home. She chose a sterile enviroment, almost museum like in nature. Cold marble floors and walls, with ancient tomes in glass cases. Wands and staffs displayed with the utmost care. Her home is intentional and very Aethra.
Post Tadpole: The parasite in Aethra's head was deeply troubling, her senses altered and her connection to the weave felt tainted. The process was difficult, but Aethra would always learn how to adapt. She threw herself into studies, everynight after her new companions went to bed she would study ceremorphosis, in the days she would seek out "cures" to treat this anomaly in her brain. She was ever so curious, any new person she met she would almost interrogate with questions, not consciously just out of pure interest. She met a fellow wizard Gale while travelling and he was her favorite to talk to. Eventually when she studied at night she started inviting him to join her and they would study together in silence. They bounced off eachother, talking for hours about their studies. Eventually when he confided in Aethra about the orb inside his chest which made Aethra just that much more fascinated by him. Although technically him getting the orb was a failure in his eyes, Aethra thought at least he had tried. At least he had tried to be something greater, to do something for what he believed. Even if that pursuit had concluded with a netherese orb imbedded in his chest. Gale's ambition was still, the most attractive thing about him to Aethra. His intelligence is what made her fall for Gale, his ability to keep up with her and someone who understood her connection with the weave more than anybody else. He made her feel truly seen. Travelling to Baldurs Gate and finding out about The Crown Of Karsus from Raphael, Gale suggests visiting Sorcerous Sundries for more information. Naturally Aethra obliges, as she too is very intrigued by what they will find. Within the store they find the Annals of Karsus, detailing Karsus' brief rise to godhood. A cautionary tale against a mortal attempting the same one might say but not Aethra. The desire to be something greater and to even temporarily achieve such a feat? Fascinating. It proves that such a thing is not impossible at the very least. This idea is intriguing to Aethra but even more so to Gale. Gale could not let the idea rest. If that's what Gale chooses to attempt? Aethra would aid in anyway she could.
Name: Ophelia Carmine Vane,
Race: High Elf, Vampire Spawn.
"Mother:" Lady Cassiopeia Vane
Party: Astarion ♥︎, Shadowheart, Wyll.
Background: Urchin
Class: The Great Old One Warlock
Prior to Tadpole: Ophelia strives for perfection, Mother spends hours dressing Ophelia everyday, brushing her hair, making absolutely sure Ophelia looks proper. Together Cassiopeia and Ophelia are the perfect nobles based on looks alone, In actuality Ophelia is not Cassiopeias daughter, Cassiopeia did always long for a daughter but things didn't work out that way for her, and so she just sorted it herself by finding Ophelia and turning her. Even though shes not her biological daughter, Ophelia looks just like her mother, maybe that's why she was chosen? When they go out Mother always keeps Ophelia close by, they go to all the places mother likes, and eat all of mothers favorite foods. Ophelia is used to performing, even if she doesn't like the things they are doing that day she knows it would upset mother, she is supposed to love all the same things as mother. From a young age Ophelia learned that security comes at difficult prices, prior to becoming a vampire spawn, Ophelia made her deal with her patron, being Cassiopeia's daughter is much easier than dealing with her patron. All she has to do is perform. She can do that, She is good at acting the part. She gets to live in this beautiful house and wear all these nice clothes she should be grateful shouldn't she? So she smiles! Smiling again and again until her cheeks start to hurt. No one can see her crack, vunerability is weakness, she cannot let her image fall apart.
Post Tadpole: Being away from Mother leaves Ophelia... Deeply unsettled, She struggles picking what to wear in the mornings each day, she hopes she can make it back soon... Being alone makes her feel very uneasy. Being her own person is difficult after so many years being the perfect "daughter" how is she supposed to know how to do these things? What does she like? Meeting allies eases her discomfort somewhat, Ophelia is absolutely not a leader in any capacity so she heavily relies on her new companions for decision making. She finds herself increasingly drawn to Astarion, the more she learns about that makes this attraction stronger. Hes so similar to her. She sees herself so deeply in him, all her vunerabilities especially. He makes her feel more at ease, they both perform so much that confiding in eachother about that is comforting. But deep down this makes Ophelia feel weak. So. Very. Weak.
She hates that she isn't strong. Without mother she feels so vunerable, so when their travels take them back home , Ophelia is overjoyed. However when she finally she reaches home she learns of her mothers death. Who is she now? What protection does she have? She needs to find a new security net and quick. This issue seemingly sorts itself out very swiftly when her and Astarion learn of ritual that could finally give them both a place of power! Her and Astarion could both be safe finally. When the day of the ritual finally comes it's.... more brutal than what she was expecting, she expected a sacrifice yes.. but she wasn't expecting the sheer volume of people that would be sacrificed. Its okay, the protection will make it all worth it. Astarion is colder now. He is similar to mother but without the "warmth" his words scare Ophelia a little because they seem like a performance? After all this another performance? Is this what security will forever be? Now instead of doing the things mother likes its whatever Astarion likes. She is scared by how much this fact comforts her, It is okay. It will all be okay as long as she plays the consort role well. Ophelia is used to performing.
Name: Vespera Solace (Formerly Rime),
Race: Mephistopheles Tiefling
Father: ??? Rime Mother: ??? Rime
Party: Shadowheart ♥︎, Astarion, Minthara.
Background: Acolyte
Class: Trickery Domain Cleric of Shar
Prior to Tadpole: Vespera was but a teenager when she joined her cloister, it's been so long now she barely remembers who she was prior to Shar worship. The thing she remembers the coldness of her childhood, the longing for her parents affection. Of course she remembers. She remembers the day she ran away from home, the last day she saw her family. She doesn't remember the details however, how did her mother look? what did her voice sound like? How about her father? She doesn't need to remember, She has Shar. Shar embraced her when her family didn't she became truly her when she took Shar into her life, it was a blessing. The loss of her parents was like being reborn, gone was Vespera Rime and born anew was Vespera Solace. Worship was hard initially, its difficult not to want for connection with another. Vespera became an Adept of the Night at the same time as another, she was a High elf, with dark hair and striking golden eyes. Umbra was her name. Vespera found it so difficult to not get swayed by her, it started light, the hand touches as they did their readings, glances to eachother in the corridors. Eventually developing into something deeper, it had to be secretive of course. Vespera knew Dark Mother Abbess Dirzlay would disapprove, but still she let herself get swept of her feet, she let this weakness creep in. It went on for a while. Until it all came crashing down. Vespera went to meet Umbra in the storage closet as always. As she opened the door she had a pit in her stomach and couldn't figure out why, but there it was. Umbra standing with Dark Mother Abbess Dirzlay. Vespera begged and begged her not to punish them "Please Mother Night I am so sorry it was wrong, I know" But she just stared in response. She quietly walked up to Vespera, an arm on her lower back guiding her to her office, Vespera was there for hours. Relearning all her teachings. "What will you give up in the name of loss Vespera?" That question still rings in Vespera's ears because she learnt that day the answer is everything. She still saw Umbra in the hallways but gone was the affection, all that remained was ice. Not even a look. This was needed. It cemented Vespera's faith she sees that now. She needed that loss to strengthen her connection to her Lady of Loss.
Post Tadpole: Vespera hates being away from her cloister, it is so very difficult being away from home, too much time to think. Vespera hates thinking. Vespera hates remembering. Everynight she finds herself reciting scriptures in her head, thats her only comfort right now. Who is she without those scriptures? When she meets Shadowheart, Vespera immediately feels drawn to her which makes her feel very wary, she sees the symbols on her, she decides she wont mention it until Shadowheart herself comes out and admits she also worships the Nightsinger. When she finally does Vespera feels herself slowly being drawn in, she hates that she feels history repeating itself, no matter what she is the same person she always has been. No matter how hard she tries she has this deep internal hunger for connection. She tries to burrow the feeling but its too much and she makes the same mistake she did in the past. How could she do this again? Especially with Shadowheart doubting Shar? Maybe she can help? Help strengthen her faith, she too has had doubts and she feels Shadowheart's faltering hurting her own faith, together they could be stronger. Maybe even become Dark Justiciars together... She knows that can't be long term however. Of course eventually she will have to give this up too.... But in that her faith will be strengthened and all will be okay again, because in loss lies strength.
