imagine a boy so angry at the world that his only options are a world without god or a world where god is cruel and uncaring at best and perhaps even actively malevolent

Iðunn huffed out a breath and rolled her eyes. "I did not attack you!" she protested, before she was forced to reconsider her words. "Well, I did, but I was provoked!"

Valerie landed lightly on the marble, fearful of putting too much weight on the stone else it would crack. It was so resplendent, shining gold, white marble, fluffy clouds, and the smell was divine. She snorted softly to herself and smiled, of course it was divine, she was standing in Olympus.
Odin had sent her down as an emissary, hoping to reconnect the pantheons. Thor had volunteered, but Valerie had read the myths, if what she suspected was true, she would be the best to get Zeus to agree without overmuch bargaining on Asgard's part. She walked under the archway, batting away the gauzy fabric as it swirled around her face. Damn fabric was even dramatic. She turned her head slightly to glance into the suite of rooms next to her path, curiosity getting the best of her. Her heart nearly leaped out of her chest and she couldn't hold back the gasp when she realized there was a woman laying on the marble on the next balcony.
A running leap, and a bit of an assist from her wings vaulted her over to the railing and she started shouting for guards. "Wake up! Hey! Can you hear me? Come on," she called, pressing her fingertips into the woman's wrist looking for a pulse, at least she was warm. "Hello? You there? Come on, wake up. Guards!" Valerie slid her hand to the back of the woman's neck and took a calculated risk, pressing her healing magic into the goddess, trying to diagnose and treat whatever the hell was wrong with a supposed immortal.
