The three fifths compromise was one of the many documents that lessened African Americans as humans. This compromise basically legalized counting African American (slaves), as half or little bit more than half, than a person when counting votes for an election. Perhaps this may have seemed right in their eyes at the time this document was created. But, overall no human should be labeled less than a human compared to any other. We let our government and the documents they create oppress us and everything we do; but as a society we should notice this, and prevent history from repeating itself.

this to me is writing that oppresses 

Besides the obvious  bias as to bracelets besides WWJD oppression these uniform guidelines completely oppress anyone who wants to be outside the range of these rules. You cant say you didn't know that your bracelet wasn't allowed because there is only one allowed. Your hair(for boys) cant grow any further than they say and must be “neat and clean”, despite any circumstances, at all times. Like it says they they tell you what too wear and how to wear it.

Language that uses oppression hmmmmmmm. well first there are many words to describe this. Language has a BIG affect on everyone and it can be perceived in many ways. Words like RACISM is a perfect example of this. Words can change peoples thinking in a negative way because some people might take it to  <3

Language has a large affect on everyone, and gives many views to different people. In this picture, these things are not allowed in the area. I believe that racism, sexism, and homophobia is wrong, but not everyone does. This is still a controlling use of language.

If you listen to the whole song, the lyrics are telling women to take control of the men once in a while. I think its pretty interesting how the roles are switched because lots of songs that are being produced talk about how women are just objects and are used for money and sex. I relate this topic back to the book we read over the summer called “Half The Sky” where women are sold to brothels. Its really sad how women are treated these days.

I believe this is self explanatory. But real quick within language being oppressive and meant to enslaved there are single words and short phrases that do the exact same thing which is language. I know you can't read the black words very well so just sit and think about the first thing that pops into your head when you read each word or a scenario that plays out when you read each phrase. BOOM! Oppression at its finest.

Language Used to Enslave

I think the most common language used to enslave people are labels. Things like hoe, bitch, slut, nigga, student, immigrant, etc are all words that are used to make people feel lower. These labels are used by people who want to make themselves feel higher, bigger, or more powerful than that other person.

When I thought of language used to enslave people, the first thing I thought of was our school handbook. The school handbook is used to tell students what we can and can't do. It even tells people how they can and can not look. All the regulations In the handbook shape the way people in our school operate by drawing out clear cut rules to controls the student body.
