What I want out of my education.
As a generally simple minded person, I want one main thing from my education: security. I want to know that with the time and effort that I put into school to learn whatever I am expected by society to learn, I will receive equal compensation in money. In the line of work that I am expecting to go into, engineering, I believe this principle is well established. If you go to a college and work for four hard years at mainly learning the math and sciences to receive a bachelors degree, you can reasonably expect to leave with a job and solid pay.
Likewise, because I am a simple minded person, I also wouldn’t mind having some simplicity in my education. While I believe open ended learning for a subject like English is fantastic due to it’s potential for abstract growth, something that is needed after learning the basics of English (a fairly basic language) for 8 years, I don’t think my scientific or historic education should be hindered by the same goal of abstract growth. Instead, I must learn all there is to know about the common understood facts of these two schools, and after mastering their facts and their intricacies (like the grammar of the standard English language), then, and only then, should I start expanding on the their base and adding to what future generations will learn as fact.
