mentor poets r hard. here r sum suggestions from a girl who struggled to find one

1. mouthful of forevers by my girl clementine von radics- i did this one and i loved everything about her so i'd say she's definitely a do. her poetry is about love and loss and her rape but there are also some stand outs about feminism and being badass 10/10 recommend her 2. eighteen by madisen kuhn- it's a book of poetry about being a teen and growing up and she has a good flow and gone and her poetry really resonates with me so if you're like me i think you'll like it (published in 2012) 3. Stuff I've been feeling lately by alicia cook it's a lil weird and the way it's set up is like it's a tape and side 1 is her poems straight and just how she wrote them. they're easy to read and she seems like a real person and then side 2 is basically black out poetry that she wrote using all the poems from the first set super cute and super creative (published 2017) 4. A Thousand mornings by mary oliver her style is beautiful and she has a poem in there about a fox that i think is adorable and it's also super meaningful and i loved it and the rest of her poems are like that. it's quality (published 2012) 5. pleasefindthis I Wrote this just for you by Iain s thomas- there's photography connected with poetry (if you're into that there's a lot to talk about here) the poems are mostly short (do) and it's easy to read. i loved this one and you might enjoy it too (published 2015) 6. chasers of light by tyler knott gregson- again. poetry and photography. this one is really cute and it's quite powerful to read i enjoyed it¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (published 2014) i don't know if any of you need this but it's here for ya to take a look at ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ have fun! ap lit is fantastic. i wish i could go back and relive it but i can't. relish it bc honestly it's the best class you'll ever take. i love you rick !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nick Flynn

I really like the poetry by Nick Flynn, he might be my mentor poet. I like his book Some Ether. It looks really interesting, and he has written some really cool poems and memoirs.

i was looking for seidel's work and found a collection by clementine von radics and fell in love with her writing and what she writes about. it's about love and loss and cliche stuff but i really like it so i think i'm going with her.

Maybe Matthew Rohrer??

So I went to Buzzfeed for help and they had a list. One person that seemed interesting was Matthew Rohrer. I read some of his poems and thought “these seem cool” so I might have him as a mentor poet :D

So I found Anne Carson and she seems pretty interesting and has a nice style of writing. Since my other mentor poet is taken, I’ve decided on her.

Mentor Poets

When I went looking for a modern poet I actually started crying. The first poem I read was “Heartbreak” by Amber Tamblyn, as an animal lover this poem about loosing a pet absolutely broke my heart, and I loved it. I then went to read Tamblyn’s poem “Brittany Murphy”. I enjoyed her poetry and would happily use her for a mentor poet. 

Then I found Patricia Lockwood and read her poem “Rape Joke” the raw emotions and truth in her poem brought me to tears. I was absolutely in awe of her form and how it seemed to fit her story perfectly. Poetry like hers is not often poetry I am drawn to, something I would usually glance past. However, I am captured by her poems and personality. They are fascinating to me, though I don’t understand quite everything in them, it just makes me want to read them more. Lockwood is certainly my first pick as a mentor poet.

Mentor poet part 2

I think I found my second pick for a mentor poet; Mary Oliver’s poetry is really beautiful, and she uses so much imagery and colors and artistic language in her writing (mostly about nature). Her literary techniques make her poems flow like the rivers she writes about, and I love that. However, although I do really like Mary Oliver's poetry, Amanda Lovelace is still definitely my first choice. :)

Mentor Poet #2

Alright so I found this other chick who I’m actually really liking. Her name is April Bernard. Her poems are so dark and creepy and I don’t know something about her just drew me in a little more. She writes with a lot of emotions behind the poems, and I’m not going to lie I actually found her when I was looking for inspiration for my creative writing poem. Although I actually didn’t end up basing my poem on something deep and dark like her poems, it still has lots of emotions behind it that I really want to dig a little deeper into.
