What is the opposite of “black”? (TSCC has a different answer depending on the year)

While I was TBM I had no clue about the book of mormon changing “white” to “pure”. To me, this actually seems worse in some ways.

I’m trying to wrap my brain around it, and I kind of get how you accept racism if you were born into it, but by 1978 wouldn’t it be totally unacceptable?

An African-American customer once asked me and a co-worker point blank: is it true at one point in your church Blacks couldn't go to heaven? Luckily my co-worker answered the question and was pretty honest about it. I was TBM at the time and I'm sure I would have given a really shitty response about “the time not being right” or “people were a product of their times” or something.
