Hii
I’ve recently finished the courtship of Princess Leia and I honestly didn’t really like. I’d like to hear more of your rambles against it!
What perturbed me most of how little Leia POVs there were I wanted to hear more of her dialogue thanks Han’s or Isolder
I'm so sorry, this has been in my inbox for a month :((( I'm the worst
In all honesty, I never finished the book. I couldn't. Leia's reaction to Han kidnapping her made me throw the book against the wall and never pick it up again. I know what happens in the end (I have a Star Wars Essential Chronology book that touches on it) but I couldn't finish the book itself.
Cause like. the fact that Han kidnapped her against her will is not what made me mad. It's how she reacted to it, how her internal dialogue was written. Han forcibly took her, essentially stripping her of her will, and also almost killed her on accident and she thought it was the sexiest thing he could have ever done. That it showed how much he loved her. Like WHAT THE FUCK
I know the author was a man and it was the 90s but this is a fucking TERRIBLE MESSAGE!!! It's not sexy! It's not cool! It's not a sign of his undying love!
It IS creepy, possessive, controlling, and abusive behavior. And it's NOT o-fucking-kay.
It would've been one thing if Han had kidnapped her and the narrative treated it as a bad action, as evil behavior. But it did NOT. In fact, Han was actively rewarded for doing so as Leia did indeed give him a chance. She gave him exactly what he wanted. He got a little jabbing from C3PO and Chewie but that was basically it in terms of negative consequences in that moment.
But I mean, I never actually finished the book. I had to put it down. Maybe they fixed it in the end and I missed something that makes this rant moot but somehow I doubt it.
Also my last thought is that if I had been Leia, I would've gone with Isolder like dude...he was rich, handsome, respectful, and his hand came with the throne of a matriarchal society with like 63 planets. I get that the throne of Hapes comes with a lot of political drama and shit that would suck but Leia knows how to manage that AND she could've provided a home for the Alderaanian refugees...
I get that the story was trying to show how much she loved Han and they were meant for each other or whatever but after Han went insane with jealousy (for NO good reason because Leia literally insisted she was in love with him and not Isolder) and fucking KIDNAPPED her Leia should've dropped Han like a box of rocks and never looked back. Like if Han hadn't done that then I'd understand her sticking with him but he did! Girl, run!! Kidnapping is a gigantic mega huge red flag!!!!!
