one thing i think a lot about is, as toph develops metal bending they collect small amounts of different metals from wherever the gaang visits. They use them to make adornments for Appa as practice and to stave off boredom. small/precise bending takes a different skill set and i think this practice becomes a core tradition of her bending school. If you’re lucky the Avatar may attend your graduation. If so, that years’s graduates get to adorn Appa with their creations during the ceremony.
