master katara
Wait Avatar: The Last Airbender has been out for 20 fucking years? aint no way, you're lying
I don’t remember mentioning it BUT HOLY F*CK YOU’RE RIGHT!
Crazy huh. I remember still watching that sh*t on cable. I don’t remember much but I DO remember being a huge Kataang shipper even back then. I rooted for them since the beginning of the show and I’ll still root for them.
I feel katara is at her weakest when she blood bends
I hate how a lot of ppl glamorize blood bending as "empowering" when the two instances in the show when katara does blood bend it's seems to be her weakest moments, when she is forced into it by desperation to save her friends and immediately after she breaks down crying and the second time when she used it against a fire Nation solider out of grief and vengeance, she wasn't in the right frame of mind in those instances and even in the second instance she has tears welling up in her eyes and even on appa she is still emotional about. She needs to be forced into do it in high stress environments and not by conscious effort you can see the obvious discomfort on her face when she even does it the first time. When she does do it it's not an easy experience for her either.
Whereas Katara never viewed healing as disempowering she healed a lot in the show even her relationship with it was never bad. The only time she showed aversion to healing was in the NWT when she was FORCED to do it by the misogynistic nature of the tribe and pakku not by her own CHOICE. Also katara was willing to help ppl with her healing no matter who they were e.g iroh after getting attacked by Azula, Zuko in the catacombs, using it to bring Aang back to life, even trying to heal jet in lake laogai. It didn't matter who or where she was, she was happy to help them out, she never have a huge emotional reaction to healing like with blood bending, it was second nature to her to heal, she never needed to be in a high stress position to do or for it to be forced out of her and she never regretted doing it after.
So I hate how healing is viewed as a lesser or not empowering power set for her meanwhile blood bending that she has a huge disdain towards is somehow heralded as a perfect example of "empowering".
