Photograph of apparition taken by Lieutenant Commander Allen Ross Brougham, USNR taken before midnight December 27 1955 on the quarterdeck of the USS CONSTELLATION (1855-1955) sloop-of-war, in Baltimore. The image was published in The Baltimore Sun December 31 1955
The image was believed to be an officer, possibly the late Captain Thomas Truxton, USN who was the first commanding officer of the first USS CONSTELLATION frigate (1797-1853)
During the Quasi-War against France, one of his most successful engagements on the frigate USS CONSTELLATION was against the larger and heavily armed French frigate L'INSURGENTE on February 9 1799 in the West Indies
The vessel is believed to be haunted by sailors dating across both versions of the warship
