As the greedy humans we are we always crave for more. I am sure each one of us at some point of time desperately wanted to have some superpowers to make things a lot easier. Parapsychology is believed to help us do such wonders. It is believed that all the psychic abilities mentioned above can actually be performed with practice and experience and we can actually control and relax our psychic to perform them. 

Here is how few of them could be done:

Astral Travel:

Lie on the back and close your eyes.

Do not move your body and focus on breath.

Trick the brain to go to a state of sleep by being relaxed

The body will be paralyzed and reach a hypnotic state.

Visualize your astral body by visualizing each part and move whole body in mind alone and enter vibration mode.

Explore and return to the body according to the silver cord or invisible force with which the soul is attached to body.

Telepathy:

Decide who is the sender and receiver with a partner.

It is essential for both to believe in telepathy

Enter a physically and mentally relaxed state.

Sender must visualize the receiver as live (and imagine a silver tube connecting both minds-optional).

Desire your thoughts to reach the receiver and allow thoughts to be emotionally charged by being relaxed and composed

Stop when a strong feeling that the message is delivered arises.

The receiver must keep the his mind blank and relax to receive the senders thoughts.

Compare results and repeat to improve

Remain calm and relaxed

Live in the moment, to be better tuned to the psychic mind.

The word telepathy came from the two Greek words “tele” and “apathe” where the first means distant or far and the second’s means feeling.

Telepathy is thought to be a form of communications between minds. When a person thinks about something or about someone else and the other person receives this thought we can call this mental telepathy.

The term was coined in 1882 by the French psychical researcher Fredric W. H. Myers, a founder of the Society for Psychical Research (SPR). It first appears in his article in the Proceedings of the Society of Psychical Research I, 2:147. Myers thought his term described the phenomenon better than previously used terms such as the French "communication de pensees," "thought-transference," and "thought-reading.

Clairvoyance, sometimes called second sight, is what most people think of when they hear the word “psychic”. It’s the gift that’s usually depicted in a WAY over-the-top manner in movies and in the media.  I had a vision that a body was on the north side of the swamp.  Eeks! 

Clairvoyance is one of the major psychic abilities and means “clear seeing”.  It means you receive intuitive information through the third eye or the mind’s eye, visions, pictures and symbols.This “inner seeing” is usually within in the mind’s eye.  In other words, you probably won’t see a Spirit in full form sitting on your couch sipping on coffee.

The ability to see things with the mind was for many centuries given religious significance, chiefly as messages from God, although clairvoyance has never been solely a Christian phenomenon. Ancient Hindu religious texts speak of a skill that can be accomplished through personal discipline and meditation. Apart from the religious aspect, one of the most common reports of clairvoyance is of a loved one appearing just after they have died.

Tele Transportation

Many people believe it to be true but scientists hold the view that it is impossible for humans to do it. Tele transportation is the theoretical transfer of matter or energy from one point to another without physically traversing the distance between them.

This is a concept which has intrigued many scientists since very early ages, but most of the scientific researches held in this area propose that teleportation is only possible at microscopic level. STATE teleportation by Bennett in 1993 was one of the earliest forms of this phenomenon proposed. According to it a quantum state of a particle could be teleported to another distant particle, but the two particles do not move at all. It was only after him that the real studies in this area started, a lot of theoretical and experimental papers published.

Physics combined with a fragment of imagination has initiated studies in t his area . Looking at the most recent development in teleportation studies is the concept of teleport energy proposed by M.Hotta in 2008. More recently In 2016, Y. Wei proposed that particles themselves could teleport from one place to another. This is called Particle Teleportation. With this concept, Superconductivity can be viewed as the teleportation of some electrons in the superconductor and superfluidity as the teleportation of some of the atoms in the cellular tube.

Physicists are trying to verify this concept experimentally. Even after being considered as a para psychological phenomenon teleportation studies has gained more attention in the field of science and there are less psychological researches going on for that matter.

Precognition

Another really fascinating phenomenon which is a subject matter of parapsychology is Precognition. It can be defined as the ability to foresee the things that are going to happen in future. Although it is not proved that it is an actual ability and is also considered comes under pseudoscience but people’s understanding about this has become very common because of its frequent mention in books and movies especially fiction, such as the TV show That’s So Raven.

However one major problem in precognition being believable or concrete enough to be a fact is the well established principle that that an effect cannot occur before its cause.

Also a study discovered that the people who believed in precognition were mostly the ones who were low in self control and this belief can act as a psychological coping mechanism.

People might often get confused between déjà vu and precognition. But in fact, Precognition is like a premonition -- it is a thought/feeling that purportedly predicts some future event. Déjà vu is like a false memory -- it is a thought/feeling that the current situation has been experienced before, despite the fact that it has never been encountered before.

Now have you wondered how it would be like to separate your body and soul and look at yourself ? Well, pretty much like how Dr. Strange does.

Astral travel is the ability to leave one’s body and travel to different places throughout the universe, and gain information. It assumes the existence of a soul or astral body separate from physical body. Isn’t that fascinating? There are several movies particularly the ghost movies in many famous film industries where astral travel is the major theme, for example the famous INSIDIOUS trilogy.

It can be done when awake and conscious in a controlled manner but for some it is spontaneous.  Most people claim to have an Out- of –Body excursion while sleeping and recollect it on waking up. It was promoted by the theosophist during 19th century. The perceptions similar to astral projections were reported under hypnosis and hallucinogens by some. It is pseudoscientific as there is no evidence for functions separate from neural activity.

Have you come across any incident where you felt something not natural around you or haven’t you heard your grandparents telling you about their combat with ghosts? At times, people encounter various situations where they falsely perceive the existence of any living or inanimate object, in scientific language we call it apparitional experiences.

Belief in something which survives even after death is existent in various cultures across the world. Indian society since the beginning of times had narration of such stories, and experiences of several people. But what do u think might actually be the reason of such experiences. Application of modern scientific investigating standards began with the work of Edmund Gurney, Frederic W.H. Meyers and Frank Podmore. Researchers found that sometimes the reason behind such spontaneous experiences would be in many respects from their fictional counterparts in either ghost stories or films or might just be an off shoot of hallucinations.

Apparitional experiences have relevance to many psychological theories, particularly to the top-down and bottom-up approaches of perception and their relevance can be proved with the philosophical theory of direct realism.

Do you remember your favourite superhero making cars and buses fly to kill the villain in a movie or reading about such a phenomena in a very famous comic? 

Psychokinesis and several phenomena’s like levitation, telekinesis, apports, etc. which are a part of it are alleged psychic abilities which many people claim to possess that deals with such beliefs. The word psychokinesis was coined by Henry Holt in 1914 in his book ‘On the cosmic relations’ and entered psychology in 1934 through the works of an American parapsychologist J.B. Rhine. Despite having no scientific justification for its existence millions of people across the world particularly the children strongly believe it to be true. But since the experiments regarding this particular phenomenon have historically been criticized for the lack of convincing evidences therefore it is considered to be pseudoscience.

Parapsychologists divided psychokinetic phenomenon into two categories based on the effects that can be seen through the naked eyes and also the ones which are invisible to naked eyes and requires statistics to be detected. One such example which could be considered is of Angelique Cottin known as the ‘Electric Girl’, who was an alleged generator of the psychokinetic activity.

Researchers suggests that these effects can also be created by verbal suggestions and through several other ways The quest behind this mystery is still to be discovered as there is always some chance of falsifiability being found.

Near To Death Experience

Is it really possible for a person to remain conscious when medically unconscious or even proclaimed dead?

Near to death experiences which have been experienced by a million of people across the globe deals with such a concept. Many people who had traumatic brain damage, cardiac arrest, serious depression or where they were almost dead or believed themselves to be dead had claimed to experience their soul out of their body, seeing the light after passing a dark tunnel and numerous positive emotions with only slight deviation.

This phenomenon started gaining popularity in 19th century when few studies moved beyond the individual cases and it entered the field of psychology with the writings of Raymond Moody becoming famous. This was followed by the establishment of the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) in 1981. Many psychological models like depersonalization model, birth model, expectancy model etc, have been proposed from time to time with several criticisms. Physiologically it has been proved that release of certain hormones or activities of several glands is responsible for various cases of NDEs. It has also been found that such symptoms as found in NDEs can also be induced by inappropriate intake of certain medicines. Culturally speaking researchers have found that the experience of NDEs is similar except from the identity of figures which they see during the experience. Whatever might be the reason of such experiences people hold unaltered belief system which is difficult to rationalise with logics and facts.
