So, for my college, science majors need about 2 internships in order to graduate (or at least one, it’s kinda one of those underlying requirements that isn’t actually in the major description). 

I spent basically an hour searching and looking up different scholarships on different websites, and I found about 4 internships that I can do due to my skills and the location of the internship (I’m basically secluded to anywhere I can get to by bus, or I have housing there so that way travelling isn’t as much of an issue).

Until all of the applications are in, I will be in a permanent state of worry because I need them but I have no one at home who is science minded and has done internships before, I’m kinda flying solo and it’s terrifying.

applying to college is the most stressful thing i've ever done because i'm not good enough to get into ivies or like the tier below ivies but then all the rest of the schools are too easy for me to get into. where is the middle ground. where is it.

I spend 50% of my time daydreaming about getting a UChicago acceptance letter and 50% of my time berating myself for the idle assumption that I'll get one. To put it this way, I have an oddly good feeling but that's making me paranoid because you're not supposed to have good feelings when 4% of admitted students have had your GPA or lower.

I've narrowed down my graduate school application list to three schools- Humboldt State, Cal Poly SLO, and a University of Florida job/masters thing with Burmese pythons.

I've applied to one of the three so far, and am working on the other two... but I don't think I'm going to be accepted anywhere. They've all indicated that there's tons of people applying, and none (out of the twenty-plus professors I contacted) have indicated that they'd actually consider me for their lab. I'm also sure that the other applicants are all more charming/personable than I am... (I think I'm one of the very few herpetology people who isn't an awesome outgoing extrovert who drinks... and instead am an introvert non-drinker, which makes herp conferences kind of awkward and weird). 

I think this is a direct result of two factors- 1) me thinking I'd get into the herp lab at UCD but not getting in because of "no funding", but the professor took other students, and the ensuing awkward limbo year... and 2) my paranoia that the professor didn't want me in his lab and is writing me a letter of non-recommendation since he told me that he didn't want me reading the letter which I've never had happen before. I think maybe he didn't realize that I worked my ass off for that research project. Despite telling me the paper was good enough for the journal of herpetology (and that we'd publish it there), he still gave me a B grade (which was kind of unheard of since it was supposed to be an A if you completed the honors year) which killed my GPA since it was a 14 unit multiquarter project.

oh... and it might not matter anyways, since I can't seem to get anyone to write me a third letter of rec because I feel super awkward asking someone who I look up to and respect to write a letter about me since I'm way too humble and think its super tacky to suck up to a boss by bragging about how productive/awesome you are.

bleh. It really sucks seeing a dream slip away because I'm not a charming extrovert and second-guess myself all the time because as far as I can tell... everything else I've done, and my passion for herpetology should make me an ideal graduate studies candidate. :/
