1. WHAT IS AN APPLYFIC?
An "applyfic" is a type of fanfiction where a writer creates a story with pre-defined roles and plot, and readers can submit their own original characters (OCs) to fill those roles. The author then chooses from the submitted characters to become part of the story, making it a collaborative and interactive fanfiction experience.
2. HOW DOES AN APPLYFIC FUNCTION?
Interactive Storytelling! Readers get to participate in the story by creating a character and submitting them to the author. The final story is a collaboration between the author and the readers who have successfully applied their characters into the narrative.
Forms! Forms, or Templates, are lists of all the information the author would need about your character. It is important to be detailed while filling character forms so the author would understand them better.
Faceclaims! Faceclaims is a person/character/art that "plays" your character. It is a general idea of your character's appearance. Depending on what the author requires, the faceclaim might need to be an irl (a person that exist in real life; models, singers, actore, influencers, etc.), or they might need an animated (drawn original, a character from an anime, cartoon, videogame, manga, manhwa etc.). The faceclaim you choose is how your character will be represented physically, better said — their appearance. It is not claimed down to an inch, you can always state in your form if you want an attribute to differ from the original faceclaim.
Love Interest! In most applyfics you will see slots for a love Interest, tropes, and such things. In these slots you tell the author how you would like your character's love life to progress throughout the book! Do they end up with someone? Is their relationship evolving from enemies to lovers, or are they friends from the start? Is your character a shy person, or are they bold and initiative when it comes to romance?
Character Slots! This is not always included, as some authors give complete freedom to the readers. The author creates specific "slots" or character archetypes needed for the story, such as "the best friend" or "the rival," which applicants must create characters to fill.
Backup Slots! Whenever you have to choose specific things for your character (e.g. faceclaim, a designated slot, a specific love interest), the author might put a backup slot section, in which you write the second most desirable option. In case another character fits into a specific slot better than yours (or in case a faceclaim doesn't have pictures the author needs), but the author still loves your character, they will use this backup to still include your character.
