Recently made a spell jar for a couple of friends, whose snake was very unwell. We were concerned that they may have had a deadly, viral infection. That was the only diagnosis that made sense to the reptile vets they had seen.
I actually prayed over my spell jar twice; once to the namesakes of their snakes, and once to Gaia, who I walk most closely with.
Thought I would share the recipe, steps, and the prayers involved. Maybe it will interest or aid someone else.
The jar; originally a thyme jar, was cleansed and blessed by the full buck moon, and with full moon water. It was then blessed by the Sunday sun, and filled with sun water.
I filled the jar with:
Two Sprigs’ worth of Rosemary leaves, fresh and homegrown, picked and crushed with intention
Six Olive leaves, fresh and homegrown, picked and crushed with intention
Bay leaves, dried, crushed with intention
Sea salt, ground with intention
Lots of Whole Cloves
Dried and Ground Thyme, Lemon, Lemon Balm, Apple, Ginger, Cinnamon, Rosehip, Hibiscus and Chamomile
And a Black Tourmaline to top. (While collecting these ingredients, I focussed on my friends, their pets, and what I hoped my spell would do for them.)
I placed a green lid on top, and took it to a park near my friends’ house. (I played music, and meditated on Mother Gaia as I made my way there.) I sat between three trees, washed my hands, put on some music, and set up. At sunset, I melt wax to seal my jar, while praying.
Here is my prayer to the gods Apollo, Artemis, Eos and Astraeus:
Wise hunter Artemis,
Handsome healer Appollon,
Children of Leto and Zeus,
Of gentleness and strength,
Eos of the dawn,
Astraeus, of the dusk,
I petition thee for mercy,
For kindness and protection
For your namesakes
And their keepers
May their xenia, storge,
Agape and filia,
Be accepted by you
May your power flow
Around this household
A sacred place
Of peace and healing
And here is my prayer to beautiful, beloved Gaia:
Gaia, Mother of all,
Maker of all,
Have mercy on this house
Look upon us with kindness
Bless and protect us
And heal us of these sufferings
After this, I carried the jar in my hands, at my chest, to my friends’ house. I tried to focus on pouring my love and good wishes into it as I walked. It now sits on their windowsill, above the kitchen sink.
Do I think it needed all these ingredients or steps? Probably not. But I found it to be a great opportunity to hone my craft, to practice meditating, and to commune with Nature in a new way.
I am happy to report that my friends have received the best news they could have about their dear Eos, and that all their snakes are as well as we could hope for. My friends seem happier, healthier and more at peace, too! That may be because their family is well again, though 😂
Either way, I would highly recommend your own similar craft, whichever medium you use.
Love and blessings to you all 💜
