FRED WEASLEY
their reputation. reputation? try traitor. nobody knew fred weasley was a death eater until it was too late - until he’d crossed the line. murderer. of two young students, their robes covered in too much blood to identify their house. tortured. past the point of recognition. they’d gotten in the way - they could not - WOULD NOT - destroy the years of work he’d put in for this. his sacrifice - of everything he believed in, his moral code, pieces of his soul lost to what he’d done - WOULD NOT BE FOR NOTHING. he had been good in the beginning - raised right, raised kind - who twisted himself, mutilated his soul beyond recognition, to do what he had to do for his brother. there was no warning, not even a hint to his twin before it happened - and then it was over before anyone could stop him. traitor is what they whispered as he was later led away in chains.
their commitment. fred weasley’s commitment was to the survival of himself and the people who mattered most to him - he’d do anything necessary to keep them safe. but there was only one person that he truly could not live without: george. everyone else would have to be collateral damage.
type of dark witch/wizard. a brutal wizard with a perchance for slicing his victims, leaving them incapacitated and as distractions for their fellows, fred is known for being surrounded in a bath of blood. he knows how distracting it can be, worrying about someone your care about being hurt - especially when they are screaming in pain - and he uses this against his opponents, leaving his victims alive… but barely, enough to cause their friends to be torn between coming after him or helping them. and the control fred could exert over another’s body, crippling them into intangible corpses - it was better than what any of his pranks had done it was almost intoxicating, when he forgot they were human beings. when he forgot what he was doing… his laughter wrung out, a familiar sound in the halls of hogwarts, but accompanied by the echoes of death and the shrill screams of agony.
once george, imperio’d to follow him from the moment on the rooftop, joined fred’s fight to leave the battlefield they were seen as unstoppable, fighting back-to-back… until presented with a foe fred was not expecting, one he had not anticipated seeing and who gave him shock.
associated dark curse. each dark witch and wizard excels at one of the three unforgivable curses more so than the others. the unforgivable curse that a witch or wizard excels in says a lot about who they truly are. fred weasley is known for his cruciatus curse - a particularly painful curse that causes the victim to feel pain to the same extent as the caster is devoted to causing them pain. for fred weasley to be known as an adept caster of this particular curse… years of working as a spy have left a torrent of repressed emotions. years of betraying his family, breaking his own moral code… mutilating who he had once been, bending and shattering his spine to fit the mold they gave him… so much pain he held, so much torment he caused himself… such a perfect outlet, the cruciatus curse…
their descent to darkness. he knew the war would have casualties - all wars did, and everyone knew that the good died young - however he did not intend on leaving the survival of himself and his twin up to fate. while he loved his family dearly and cared for the golden trio and the other gryffindor students - he could live with himself if they died. he could not imagine a world without his twin. when approached on his own by a slytherin in his own year, caught on his way to meet angelina and george, and offered a position as a spy due to his proximity to harry potter - in return promised the safety of himself and his brother - he didn’t refuse. he didn’t accept… until later, right before he and george made their escape from hogwarts, when he realized that the dark lord’s reach was far greater than he’d ever imagined - so far so that fred didn’t think they could truly win should be come to full power.
yet he resisted at first. he was taught his whole life that the dark arts were bad, that purists were stuck in their traditional ways, that the death eaters were murderers who supported a monster who craved to commit genocide, that the greater good was an important factor to any decision, that family was what mattered the most… family mattered the most… “this is for the greater good, to keep george safe is all that matters.“
the slytherin’s words slipped into his mind, slimy as a slug: if he was a spy for voldemort and voldemort never truly resurfaced - or was defeated, nobody on harry’s side would be any wiser. if he was a spy and voldemort won, him and george would be safe. if he was a spy and there was a battle where they could be killed… he could imperio george, whom he knew would insist on fighting beside harry and he could get them both to safety through voldemort’s ranks, unstopped due to their belief in his loyalty to them, and wait to see who won. should harry win… well, the use of an unforgivable curse on his twin would be frowned upon, but george would understand… wouldn’t tell anyone… george would keep him safe too.
their teamwork. reluctant to work with any of the purist and hardcore supporters of the dark lord, fred weasley prefers to work alone as a spy. the only death eaters that he will accept to work with are those who have the same motivations for joining the ranks of the dark lord as him- which he has found from many of the slytherin hogwarts students.
their end. so surprised by the sight of his mother standing in front of him with her wand pointed towards him, fred failed to deflect a stunning curse aimed at him. once he fell, george was quickly captured and the curse removed, returning him to his free will. while george felt betrayed by his brother - as if he had lost fred - fred was sent to trials, found guilty of being a spy and of murdering two students, torturing many others and using unforgivable curses, and led to azkaban in chains while he family watched on.
their theme song. fred weasley’s theme song would be i’ll keep you safe by sleeping at last.
