Jer spent the rest of April 1st scrutinizing everything and anything that seemed out of place. He was not going to let Adrian get back at him for that spider. Even if it took him 15 minutes to inspect his dinner before trying to eat it.
He’d catch Adrian watching him with an amused smirk, and it only confirmed that something was going to happen.
...Except, it didn’t. By the time Jer had brushed his teeth ( his toothpaste was fine ) and settled down the stow away in time for bed, absolutely nothing had been out of place.
Adrian was already in bed, reading one of his new favorite novels, like nothing was wrong. Jer narrowed his eyes at him as he approached the bed.
“...Okay, spill it. What was your prank??” “Hmm?” "Don’t play dumb, what was it? I really don’t want to come across it tomorrow or something when I’m not expecting it.”
The redhead gave him a sheepish smile. “Actually, I didn’t quite have the time to put one together this year, with you and Coco to fuss over. And the baby, of course.”
“...You mean you threatened me with ‘be prepared’...and you didn’t actually have a prank planned. At all.”
“Yes, that ended up as the prank.” Adrian chuckled at him.
Jer gave him a burning glare, before he threw the covers back and eased himself down to sit on the bed. “You are brilliant. Evil, but brilliant. You win.”
Adrian flushed a bit, and set down his book. “Thank you, but this wasn’t a competition love. Sorry if I stressed you ouW JER WHY” his sentence was cut off as he tried his best to fling the ice cubes from his nightshirt. Coco began to bark at the bedroom door because of the yelling.
“REVENGE!” Jer bellowed, flinging the ice cube tray to the side and throwing his arms in the air in victory - only to wince slightly when the stow away was startled by his yelling. He let out a quieter “Woo!” and did his best to settle them down while Adrian jumped up to rid himself of the cold bits of ice.
They both laughed after a while, and Adrian admitted defeat before climbing back into bed. “Alright, let’s all settle now that I’ve lost my place in my book.”
At the word settle, Coco quieted a little and hopefully went back to her bed. Although from the fluffy tail poking out under the door, it was likely not the case. Jer did his best to get comfortable, and felt like he could finally relax after such a stressful day. Being around Adrian helped of course, and even the stow away began to calm. It’d been a good day.
Now all Jer had to worry about was what to do for Adrian’s birthday.
