Sipping liquor from a plastic cup while sitting on a swing in a park at midnight was the last place Julianna expected to find a sense of peace, but she welcomed it greatly. Not to mention she was as high as a kite from consuming an illegal substance that came in the magic form of Blue Mystic.
If it weren’t for her stressed state of mind, she wouldn’t have allowed her friends to drag her to a party so suddenly but with her current situation back at home, she was grateful.
Cool nightly winds whipped around her as she sighed out in relief, leaning her head against the metal chain of the swing she occupied. She could still hear the music faintly in the background where the party was being held just down the street with no intention of stopping till the sun came up.
Julianna had left her friends moments ago just to get some much-needed air from the crowded house. Her eardrums were still ringing from all the loud voices and heavy bassed hip hop that beat down on her canal since the moment she arrived. She had managed to stay around for an hour before she had enough and needed some space, soon finding herself in the empty park.
Plus the moment her eyes landed on Andres, her feet seemed to move to the nearest exit without her knowledge.
He was the last person she was trying to see, much less talk to.
Subconsciously, she had run her free hand over her cheek at the fresh scar that graced her skin. One that was given to her all because he didn’t know how to control one of his bitches.
It was as if at every turn of her life she was only faced with negativity. A constant reminder of how unhappy she truly was. Instead of traveling the world and experiencing things that most people her age should, she was stuck in the same city, surrounded by the same people after being put in a situation she didn’t ask for.
Shit was unfair…but what could she do?
Sighing loudly, Julianna placed the plastic cup to her lips, taking a long swing of the clear liquor, shivering at the intense taste as it burned going down her throat.
Fixing her gaze to the darkening sky above with a few twinkling stars, she didn’t hear someone come up from behind her. It wasn’t until the squeak of the swing next to her caught her attention that she realized she was no longer alone. Too high to panic or feel fear, under low lids she glanced to the figure beside her, smiling slightly at what she saw.
Her red eyes seemed to slowly take him in under the glow of a single light that was a little ways from the swing set. He was…handsome and disgustingly so. Julianna felt as if she had only been used to seeing someone like him on tv in those foreign dramas that her friend introduced her to. The type of handsome that could have only been hand sculpted by God himself.
She almost didn’t believe that he was real until he begins to speak with a voice that was nothing short of serene. “It’s dangerous being out so late, especially alone,” He states, gripping the chains as those obsidian orbs studied her face.
Julianna shrugged, turning her attention to her beverage. “Maybe…but I can handle myself though,” She replied once she swallowed, shaking the cup to see that it was almost empty.
He hummed lowly at her response. “Would you mind if I kept you company for a few minutes?” He asked, slowly feeling himself drown in the beauty of her. This was the last place he needed to be but the moment his eyes landed on her lone figure, he couldn’t stop himself from heading in her direction out of pure curiosity.
“With a face like yours, how could I say no?” She answered him honestly, allowing her intoxicated state to speak words that she would never say if she was sober. “You’re not from around here…” She quietly observed, giving him her undivided attention.
“It’s that obvious, huh?” He grinned, admiring the way her glossed lips seemed to shine in the most inviting way. The itch to know what they would feel like against his own had been steadily rising since he approached her.
“Well…” She begins, giving him a once over in his all-black fitted suit before landing on his face once more. “A well kept Asian man in the middle of the hood filled with black and brown faces who’ve known each other for most of their lives…you definitely stick out here,” She giggled.
“Maybe I’m new to the neighborhood,” He states, earning a soft smile.
“Trust me, Vice City is the place people try to get away from, not move to…especially willingly,” Unfortunately for Julianna’s case, it felt like she would be stuck here forever, simply because she would feel guilty if she left.
Shaking her head, she downed the rest of her drink, wishing she could just teleport to a better place than this. “You say that but you’re still here…” Being in dangerous areas wasn’t anything new to him and Vice City was a place that he was all too familiar with.
“If it was easy, I wouldn’t be here,” She mumbles, fixing her gaze to the patched grass beneath her Chuck Taylors. To leave meant never seeing her sister or niece again.
The stranger next to her hums knowingly. “I see. Somethings keeping you here but I don’t necessarily see that as a bad thing…”
Julianna glanced at him with curious eyes, his words throwing her mind for a loop. “How so?”
“Because I’m lucky to have come across a diamond in the rough,” He expresses, completely in a trance. It was clear to him she was going through something, what, he didn’t know but the way she showed her pain through her eyes intrigued him.
“Who are you?” Julianna questioned, trying to fight back whatever feeling that was rising inside of her at his words. The way his eyes seemed to look into her own, not once putting his attention on anything than her made her heart thump harshly inside of her chest.
“Depends…” He casually replies with the shrug of his shoulders. “I can be whoever or whatever you need me to be,”
Julianna smirked, playfully rolling her eyes at his words. “Well fortunately for you, I’m in need of a lot of things; security…love…loyalty, just a lot of shit that I haven’t felt in a long time, if ever truthfully,” She softly lists off, closing her eyes as the wind brushed across her face, the feeling only adding to her tipsy and high state.
“All that is a given if you’re willing to take a chance,"
"What’s your name?” She asks after a few seconds, attempting to control her breathing as he brought his fingers up to skim across her exposed collarbone. His touch although foreign felt nothing short of soothing. A feeling she didn’t want to disappear just yet.
“Jaehyun,” He responds just as someone from behind them calls out to him in a language that Julianna wasn’t familiar with. She watched him nod towards men standing near a black SUV before his attention went back to her. “I have somewhere else I need to be but…can I at least get your name before I go?”
Holding out her hand, she waited until he firmly gripped hers before introducing herself knowing that come tomorrow morning, she probably won’t remember none of this. To see his face again would only be in a dream because, in her world, things never played in her favor.
