This is a close-up of a scales painting texture i apply to some of my tails. Some fabric tail makers use sublimation printing to create patterning on their tails, and that works fine, but hand painting each tail, such as i do, offers more opportunity to customize details, and add realistic effects and textures. I use a combination of stencils, airbrushing, and hand painting with permanent flexible waterproof colors, and often add further embellishment such as jewels or trims, to add even more texture and realism. It is possible to have a realistic looking fabric tail (without photoshop)!!
