We found an even smaller turtle? It's a baby red-earred slider and it was just marching up our ramp! 2025
Taken on a Samsung
Obligatory Fifi faceplant
Today the tortoises were outside! They had so much fun
Sotéria is on the left picture and Philoména is on the right one. Don't let the stillness of these pictures fool you, they were little gremlins all afternoon
Turtle alignment!
Bonus:
Say hello to my mom's turtle, Bob!
aka Bobzilla, aka the Destroyer of Water Filtering Pumps and Plastic Plants
He's an adult yellow-bellied slider
Even though they've never met face to face (to my knowledge (*eyes Mom*)), I think his lust for destroying everything in his path radiates so strongly throughout the house that my babies were able to learn all his techniques and are now doing the same
Chélydre serpentine - Pour pouvoir respirer, elle remonte très doucement en ne laissant dépasser de la surface de l’eau que ses yeux et son nez.

It was my pleasure to escort this grand old gal across the road today. I had nothing to show scale, but she was easily 12" carapace length if not more, and very heavy - most likely full of eggs that she was on her way to go lay. If you look to the upper left of her shell, you can see an old healed wound; the picture conveys depth poorly, but it was a sizable depression. She is a survivor! Possibly a past close call with a car, or something like a mower or propeller (also common sources of injury). She was also a little more oblong than some of the river cooters of the same size that I've seen locally, but there were no visibly deformed scutes and she was in great body condition. Unfortunately she did not feel like poking her head out for a photo op but I promise there is a very alive (and not very pleased with me) turtle tucked in there.
If you search the turtle hashtag on this blog, there are several posts about how to safely and correctly help turtles cross the road. If you want to help but aren't completely confident on the right methods, please give them a look!
It's a beautiful day in Chicago, and you are a nerd with a camera at the Shedd Aquarium.
Need some help. I took in a turtle a couple of months ago now, planning to just be an in-between for proper housing. Her owner was going to toss her out in the snow. I have her in a tank, barely half what she needs, and I don't have the money to get her the right setup. The only rescue that's responded to me would be a 4 hour drive, and I'd have to pay them to take her. If I have to, I will, but my family is struggling right now.
If anyone is interested in adopting her, she's a fully grown yellow belly slider. She has some minor shell damage from previous homes but is otherwise a healthy and sweet girl. Please message me if you're interested, know someone who might be, or know any closer rescues. I'm in the Detroit/Redford area, and I'm willing to drive a bit if anyone can take her in and provide the large tank she needs.
