Lisia stood before her with a bright smile and a large basket cradled somewhat awkwardly in her arms. “Haaaappy Birthdaaaay!” she sang, offering the basket out to Selene. The plan had been in motion from almost the first moment Lisia learnt of their shared birthday. Her thoughts had zipped into overdrive and put pieces together, soon going ahead to make the necessary arrangements of ordering things and getting a particular pair of prized pokemon prepared to procreate.
“I know you’ve already got a lot going on and all, but I absolutely had to give you this sweet little egg! I just know you two will be so good for each other, I can feel it!”
One as knowledgeable and experienced as the current Alolan Champion would likely recognise the blue, white spotted egg as one that would hatch into an Azurill. Wrapped around the egg to secure and warm it was another gift for Selene; a Primarina themed ‘mermaid’ blanket.
But wait, there’s more! Tucked along the edge of the basket was also a decently sized scrapbook, ready to be filled with the memories of the new life and connection.“…I didn’t go too far, did I?” she asked, belatedly hit by worry at being presumptuous. Not everyone would be okay with suddenly having an egg given to them after all.
IT ISN’T OFTEN THAT SELENE GETS TO SEE LISIA, BOTH OF THEM BEING VERY BUSY BEES, and so it’s all the more special that the turquoisette is able to see her in person on their birthday! That alone had warmth blossoming in her chest already, a wide smile of her own pulling at her lips. “Ma~halo~!” Comes her sing song declaration of gratitude, Alola’s champion barely managing to contain a small fit of giggles of glee. “I should be saying that to you too, birthday twin!” ...but then it hits that a gift is offered to her.
Blues widen, head tilting, lips forming an ‘o’ of surprise that melt back into a softened smile--it’s right on the tip of her tongue to say ‘you didn’t have to!’ but, something tells her Lisia knows she didn’t have to. It’s just...well, she happened to have a sponge for a heart and even the littlest thing could move her.
(Too sentimental? ...maaaaaaybe.)
But then she hears a word. The magical “E word ” at the same moment that she registers the larger component of the basket, eyes twinkling. “Ah! an egg! An...an Azurill egg!” The familiar pattern...it couldn’t be anything else. That or perhaps she’d have to study up on Pokemon appearances again. But she knew it was an Azurill--and she’s wanted to raise one so she knew. “You got me an Azurill~! I’ve always thought they were adorable!” She was practically grinning ear to ear, arms gently encircling the egg and...oh, blanket to keep them warm?
“I’ll do my best to give you all the love you need, and then when you hatch, we’ll make lots of fun memories together. I promise! My teammates are going to love you too.” Sweet words cooed, before the “blanket” came partially undone--the tail becoming visible. The pattern...the colors...a mermaid tail Primarina blanket!
And she squeals at it. “Now I can be a mermaid outside the water too~! Ariel’s gonna love that we can match together it’s perfect!”
As if Lisia’s gift package wasn’t wonderful enough, there was the scrapbook--the icing on the cake. Memories were dear to Selene--several scrapbooks of precious moments and people throughout her life tucked away safely in her apartment already. Now, with another book, she’d capture every sweet moment she and her new future friend were to have.
It’s not that she can’t understand Lisia’s worry, but all she does is instead giggle. Sheer happiness radiating from her. “Not too much at all! These are a-mazing gifts! I was just happy to see you, and then you blew me away! I’m going to take so many pictures with Azurill and we’ll cuddle in my new blanket together!”
Delicately, she wraps her new egg back up in the blanket and settles it within the basket. If there is another thing about her? She’s prone to being a hugger when she’s overwhelmed joy and can’t stop herself from flinging her arms around Lisia in a joyful embrace.
“Thank you so, so much!”
