My.Kali: "is the first LGBTQ+ webzine for and from the Middle East and North Africa. they aim to demonstrate diversity and fight repressive forms and norms with art therapy, photography, and visual innovation. The magazine tackles issues related to women’s rights, personal politics, gender related matters, freedom of speech, alt-communities, and new media. This allows for a window of hope where societies’ minorities can find solidarity, offering a safe atmosphere of reassurance and certainty in the midst of regional turmoil."

I don’t like it whenever I try to vent about the stuff I face as a closeted trans man from the Middle East, well-meaning westerners tell me that I should leave everything behind and come over to their side like it’s that easy
The environment we were brought up in conditioned us to be loyal to family/roots/tribe, it’s not easy to let that go
I basically built my whole life here, my job is here, I was educated here- it’s harder to take that with you abroad where they don’t even recognize your college, it’s not easy to let that go
Like okay I get to the west, now what? How am I gonna afford HRT and my ADHD meds? How am I gonna provide for housing? Taxes? Bills? If the college educated non immigrant citizens are already struggling for jobs with their state college degrees, what about me?
I’m supposed to take a couple of fast food gigs where I get yelled at by white people over chicken nugget? Only to not make enough to afford rent????
Idk I’m sorry I’d rather transition during retirement where at least I have a financial safety net, gender dysphoria might be a bitch but I don’t wanna end up homeless in a country where I don’t know anyone
I had a IRL transmasc person who I thought was a friend basically call me a coward for this, he probably looked at me like I was his escape plan- like we’re gonna get outta here Thelma and Louis style
This is real life not a fcking movie, we don’t control the narrative here
Plus I have young nieces and were involved in their lives, idk what effects me disappearing like that would have on their development and I’m not taking any chances
Plus I can’t leave my cat behind
The world doesn’t just revolve around me
Hi, I’m a Queer Arab during this fine day on Arab American Heritage month, I realized that an Queer Arab flag doesn’t exist,
SO I MADE ONE!!!
Here’s one without the eye:
want to explain this record the least to straight people-it’s none of their business. I don’t want to speak on behalf of the queer Gulf. I don’t think it’s fair for one person to assume that role.” - Fatima Al Qadiri
Who is Fatima Al Qadiri?
• Fatima Al Qadiri is a queer, Senegalese-born Kuwaiti musician and conceptual artist.
• Her most recent album, Medieval Femme, takes inspiration from female Arabic poets of the Middle Ages, and it quotes directly from Al-Khansa's verse on “Tasakuba.”
• She's also the composer for the Spanish film “La Abuela” released in January.
