On This Day — May 16, 1936: Arabs Gun Down Three Jews Leaving a Cinema in Jerusalem
They weren’t soldiers.
They weren’t settlers.
They were just civilians enjoying a night out.
As they left the cinema, three ordinary Jews — two men and one woman — were shot dead in cold blood by Arab gunmen.
This wasn’t random crime. It was part of the exploding 1936 Arab Revolt.
Arab gunmen turned cinemas, buses, markets, and cafés into killing zones. Jewish farmers were murdered in their fields. Jewish mothers and children were shot in their homes.
Yet the Arabs were also slaughtering each other. “Moderate” leaders, suspected collaborators, and rival clans were executed in horrific fashion. During parts of the revolt, Arabs killed far more of their own people than they killed Jews.
This wasn’t “resistance.”
This was a toxic mix of nationalist fever, religious hatred, and tribal savagery that made no distinction between Jewish civilians and fellow Arabs.
Jewish life was already cheap in 1936 — twelve years before Israel even existed.
That is why a strong, sovereign Israel is non-negotiable.
Now, unlike then, Jews are no longer left defenseless.
We fight back. We hit hard. And Jewish blood is no longer cheap — it has become very, very expensive.
