Day 6: Playa Tamarindo . After a little souvenir shopping, we hit another beach today so the girls could get surfing lessons. They were up on the board in less than half an hour! I was impressed! . The beach is very large. It got more crowded as the day went on, since it’s a surfing destination. We stayed for the sunset and had dinner in town. It is more commercialized here than in Coco (where we are staying). . Day 5: Ponderosa Adventure Park

We spent the day at Ponderosa. Feeding the animals in the mini-“safari” + ziplining + horseback riding + kayaking = a lot of smiling and laughing. 😄😂

My current bug bite count: 5 (We had to leave our backpacks in the car in the afternoon, so I didn’t get to reload on the bug spray.)

Day 8: Playa Tamarindo The girls wanted to meet up with some family friends that were also on vacation here, so we headed back to Tamarindo so they could surf and swim @momoffourgirls and I walked around their shopping area, then sat and ate in a cafe for most of the rest of the afternoon (mostly for the air conditioning 😂). These horses were eating and waiting for their owner outside. As always, the drive was full of greenery. Day 7: All over the place 😆 . We had some unexpected plan changes today, so we ended up driving around and doing quick stops to take pictures in Santa Rosa National Park and La Cruz. At one point, the others got a text message from T-Mobile that welcomed them to Nicaragua. 😂 . Day 4: Playa Hermosa . After some free time this morning (I got the front half of my syllabus done! 😆), we spent a lazy day at another beach. . I sat around, watched this little worm, and felt my life threatened by this coconut that fell from a nearby tree before I got up and walked along the beach. . We had dinner at a restaurant on the beach and watched the sunset. . Day 3: Parque Nacional Rincón de la Vieja, incluye Catarata La Cangreja . We went to a national park that had a volcano, but this trail that led to a waterfall was about to close, so we decided to do that first. It was over 10 km round trip, with lots of (at times steep) inclines, but we survived! The waterfall was pretty, and we had lunch there. On the way back, we got to walk through the rainforest while it rained. . We didn’t have time to get to the volcano, so that will be an activity for another day. (My sore legs need to recover, anyway. #outofshape #ilovefood #toomuch😆) . What is the animal in the last picture? 🤷🏻‍♀️ . Day 2: Playa Brasilito y Playa Conchal
.
It was more of the beach life today! We took the highly questionable route (it felt like an off-road Jeep tour 😆) to our destination.
.
First, we ate lunch on the sands of Playa Brasilito. I was highly amused at the sand crabs that would tentatively come out of their holes in the sand, do a few seconds of zigzag moves while scavenging, and then run back to their holes when the waves would come near them.
.
Then we walked next door to Playa Conchal, where the water is blue and clear, and the shore is made up of broken seashells. We spent most of our time there. While the kids swam, I got to sit in the tree for a while. It felt good when the waves would come in and cover my dangling feet. So relaxing.

Day 1 in Costa Rica: Playa del Coco y Catarata Llanos de Cortes . We spent the morning at the beach near us. The sand was soft and dark. Besides birds, butterflies, and lizards, we also saw several hermit crabs running and hiding, dogs going for a dip, and an iguana refusing to recycle. . We spent the afternoon at a huge waterfall and hiking around it. Part of the hike took us to another water hole where the girls could jump in. We saw howler monkeys on the way back to the van. .
