There was something about the stars in the warmer months that reminded Jonathan of home... except that it was a home that wasn’t the one he currently occupied, somehow. That didn’t make much sense, he realized, because home had always been Paralia and it’s not like he knew any differently, but he often had trouble recalling his origins before he and his family had moved to the quiet little village. On nights like tonight, the sky lent itself a familiarity he couldn’t recognize, one that wasn’t in his immediate life. He wasn’t sure if he believed in the possibility of reincarnation, that he maybe could have been someone else, somewhere else, but he couldn’t deny the certain pressure that a sky like this, full of crushed diamonds and glittering swirls, touched onto his soul. It was almost like a message desperately attempting to be sent, a cry for help that he couldn’t hear. He often worried about the troubling world he lived in and this did little to help his anxiety. As a result, on nights like this, he found himself walking... and this evening in particular he had a purpose.
Having these unconventional, existential thoughts had lead him to Aradia, a nice young lady he had met from a random text. The whole idea of it was rather modern and was slightly lost on his traditional nature; he couldn't help but be additionally nervous, as well, if only because he knew that his stature was sometimes intimidating. He had been labeled a "gentle giant" in the past, and insulted as a "naive behemoth" as well (which came from Dio, who was about if not exactly his size?), which had stuck with him in the sense that he was, indeed, huge. At 6'4" and about 231 pounds, that much was extremely obvious. But nevertheless, even with these concerns, he could work a cellphone and as such arranged to meet this girl in one of the parks that Paralia had nearby his home. Nice and convenient, he had thought.
She had seemed different just through text alone. Like she wouldn't actually care about his physical presence as much as his mental fortitude, which he hoped was apt enough for their... adventure, as it were. It was all very compelling to Jonathan; he was not one to trust so easily but felt a gentleness from her and a curiosity he could admire. Besides, they were doing something completely separate of logic and convention, something he hadn't seriously considered before talking to her. He had just thought he was a more nervous man than most (which was still partially true), not that it could actually be caused by a force completely separate of him. If this worked out as he hoped, perhaps a lot of his daily anxieties would go away. He would certainly like that.
But even if spirits and the dead unrest really existed... was it really possible to be haunted by a life you didn't actually have?
He pondered this and more as he looked up at the sky, waiting.
