Story of my life.
Hello! It's the same dude who asked you what Aberrant and the Squad™ thought of the player/hero. How would Abomination and/or Anomaly react if the player/hero figured out their true motivations? Does the player already know? No pressure to answer!
Well, “the player” is a situational manifestation, so it’s a little tricky to give a unanimous answer… though I’ll start by saying that the Abomination is in NO WAY subtle about its motives and goals.
The Anomaly’s a little more subtle, but I think most players would figure out they’re up to no good considering how effortlessly they’re willing to off townsfolk in order to demonstrate how they’re so much ‘better’ than them without ever saying so directly.
In the case of my personal setting, yeah, Dai knows. She won’t let either get away with their garbage, and leaves Excelsior alone for the most part, so the seal’s safe under her jurisdiction.
Others, though…
…might not have such scruples…
Oh man that last frame with Arbeh holding the prism... Got me wanting to ask about Arbeh lol. What's his opinion on the Starfallen deal?
Thankfully, he's actually unaware of its full extent for the time being.
He'd be the one to actually utilize the opportunities offered by Abomination and Anomaly because he has a very "because I can" driven mindset.
He knows nothing of the seal, though, because anyone who could tell him won't because they just know he'd go and break it just so he could flaunt his power in the ensuing chaos. They're kinda hoping he just gets bored of the planet and leaves one day. Even those who would benefit from the seals breaking wouldn’t want it done with him around, since they know he would be very likely to just off them once they're at full power.
Because he can.
AA-Aw, I like Arbeh. :P Cool monster people are my jam. Anyway, thank you very much! Also, the fact that you manage to keep all those characters straight is /mind-boggling/. I thought I had a lot of characters. XD (I'm glad you've decided to keep making new characters, they're honestly some of the most fascinating I've come across. Inspires me to make my own better. XD)
Haha, wow, thank you! I wouldn’t call it keeping them straight per-se, I just write as much down as I can, but once in a while things shuffle a bit as I return to them. I can’t attend them all at once, and changes here and there do tend to ripple a bit over time, which is why keeping written records is so valuable, even if they’re just small summaries or notes or even conversations I’ve had about them. What can I say, I’m a pack-rat!
Also, you are fully entitled to like Arbeh as a character (I mean, I do, too!), but within the context of the setting, he is literally one of the worst people personality-wise because he let all that power he got really get to his already-oversized head, hahaha.
As such, none of the other characters like him; he won’t attack anyone, sure, but he basically views everyone as below him, and has zero qualms with ruining the native environment for fun or to amass materials to terraform or build whatever he wants, wherever he wants. He’s basically the uncaring and unscrupulous player archetype. The grinder, the overacheiver, etc. Everyone who’s had to survive and climb the trophic web of Terraria’s world has started with shades of that, but he really embraced it once everything was over and done.
On the *fingerquotes* plus-side, he tends to leave other settlers alone and just sort of enjoys flaunting his deific status rather than using it to boss people around or claim anyone is indebted to him. After all, what could anyone else possibly give him? He gets more joy out of breeding begrudging resentment than genuine admiration because he’d spent so much time being an underappreciated menial laborer before all this happened.
Hell, he even helps others with his amassed wealth of resources and artifacts, but it’s always with such overwhelming pretension that the only person who doesn’t deeply detest him coming around and going “aw, little adventurer having trouble? WHY LET ME HELP YOU WITH ZERO EFFORT HAHA I’M SO AWESOME LOOK AT ME BEING A GOD WHO’S BETTER THAN YOU” is Auraion (who steals from him rather than letting him patronize her), and maybe Aaarrrgg (whose mindset is too alien to really understand the social implications).
And in case anyone’d wonder... The Starfallen are scared of him. He’s too amoral for Aberrant to trust, Abomination knows it can’t rely on him to keep a pact because he’s too powerful and conceited to honor one, and Anomaly figures that a guy who’s powerful enough to have the means to repeatedly resummon and kill the Moon Lord for fun and profit is probably too much trouble to attempt to Awaken around and therefore keeps a low profile.
Life has a way of… surprising you.
When I joined the RockClaw guild, I expected your basic lucrative, dishonest work. Go to alien planets off the records, kick out their standing population, exploit them of their natural resources, leave withered husks in our wake, get rich, die comfortably.
I never once dreamed that I would be chewed up and spat out by a giant undead alien carcass, that I would survive, that I would claw my way up the food-chain of a nonsensical world alongside equally crazy survivors. Never thought it possible that I would ever be the type to come to rely on something so nebulous as magic.
And most of all, I never, ever, ever even entertained the very thought that I would find myself assisting in the slaying of an ancient alien god. Using RAINBOWS.
Life is weird.
I present to you... VOICE ACTING of the incredible character ARBEH by the equally brilliant http://slushblock.tumblr.com!
That new fan character of your is amazing. The thought that playing having certain items would manage to twist and warp you character like that. I am of course talking about his hand, which is the EOC shield? Right?
Yeah! And to avoid the one-word answer, a bit of alternate take; originally I was gonna have it growing out of his chest or abdomen (R-Type Dobkeradops-style), since the shield itself is ambidextrous on the sprite/just kind of floats there. But I couldn’t quite make it work with the tux, so I just attached it to his arm… but who’s to say he can’t absorb it and call it out anywhere, eh? Can’t trust an ex-space-pirate turned magic meat-mutant…
