Arc 12, Reflections
I have had... issues with Worm, thus far, complaints and grievances and quibbles and so forth.
But nothing has made me contemplate stopping, even for a second.
Slaughterhouse Nine? It's actually made me consider stopping.
Not because they're dark, or evil or w/e. I'm begging to come to the conclusion for all that Worm is depressing and full of unnecessary despair, it's reputation for being dark is somewhat overblown. Though, we will have to say.
Dark things happen, but the story itself is not dark. Yet. We'll see.
But the reason I'm considering stopping, even if only briefly is that Slaughterhouse Nine is frustratingly boring as antagonists. The fight scenes with them aren't bad - the Mannequin fight was a good read and all - but as characters, as villains, as antagonists, they're boring and annoying in equal measure.
I'm just not equipped to enjoy these kinds of antagonists - serial killers, I mean - or find them very interesting. Okay, so you can kill people. And? Why? For what endgame? What goal? What vision? Just because?
Oh, oh, you're an artist? Totally, yeah, right. Boldly trying to 'improve'. Because you can level up with a lot of murder.
And I'm not looking forward to two more arcs of these characters sweet jesus fuck. Oh my god it's gonna be annoying. And then we'll see even more of them when we get Slaughterhouse 9000. :sob:
I'm gonna keep going, but oh my god this is gonna be so fucking boring in the most annoying ways and I am gonna be yelling 'Slaughterhouse Nine is Boring' so many times sweet fucking hell.
As for the rest of Arc 12 - entertaining, more development of the 'nobody fucking works together' theme, even if perhaps played a little too hard. Coil be Coiling, Hooky the Hangnail Dog be Hooking, the Merchants be getting eviscerated and Skitter totally goes 'It's SKITTERING TIME!'
We get a better look at Skitter's plans, such as they are, Re: Dinah, that Dinah remains her main goal right now - she's still not losing sight of heroism. She risks dying to Mannequin to protect her people. She's not really a villain. She's opposed to the 'Heroes', but Taylor still hasn't really done anything worse than some theft and knocking around some heroes and scaring a bunch of civilians. This is perhaps, not entirely accurate, but I mean it more from the standpoint of things readers might care about.
Granted, she's going to 'get worse', including, I gather, killing a Baby, but...
Arc 12 is good, but I am sure as fuck not looking forward to more S9.
