So in Texas the heat gets pretty killer and we have wanted to make some sort of patio shaded area for a while. A good pergola is really just too expensive for us ( we live in a hurricane prone area so we have to be very considerate of durability and safety but also something not so expensive that if it's ruined we're screwed) so we thought we would try to make a jumbo sized cattle panel arch. It wasn't necessarily cheap but significantly less than a pergola would be. We used the thicker cattle panels just cause we wanted to ensure it would be kinda solid and it was absolutely a pain in the butt to set up that resulted in a lot of bruises and scratches but BEHOLD! One side has a muscadine grape we planted last year and the other has a cucumber plant and a small native passion vine. The muscadine is a beast clearly so in fall we will plant another muscadine on the other side for more equal shade coverage.
