Arched Harp (shoulder harp) ca. 1390–1295 B.C. | New Kingdom This type of portable, boat-shaped arched harp 𓃀𓈖𓏏𓏢 “bn.t” was common during the New Kingdom and is shown in the hands 𓂧𓂧 “mḥ.wy” of processional female musicians 𓐍𓈖𓏌𓅱𓀝 “ḫnw” performing alone 𓌡𓂝𓅨 “wˁ” or in ensembles with singers 𓎛𓎿𓋴𓀁𓁐 “ḥsy”, wind instruments, sistrums 𓋴𓈙𓈙𓏏𓏣 “sšš.t” , and rattles. The end of the arched frame is decorated with the head of a Nubian 𓅘𓎛𓋴𓌙𓀀 “nḥsy” captive 𓋹𓀏 “ˁnḫ” who appears to be bound by the strings of the harp. Geography: From Egypt Medium: Wood Dimensions: L.
