Update Post- Moving Blogs

Hey guys,

I'll be perfectly honest and say I'm not sure how much interaction happens on this blog as it stands- I appreciate those who do comment, reblog etc, but things have steadily declined over the years.

Honestly this blog has been running for years, ever since 2016, and I'm unsure how to proceed running it when I feel as though I've changed a lot as a person. In some ways nothing's changed, but in other ways it feels like trying to put on clothes that are too small. I thought about purging all my old content and just staying here, but then I'd be losing a museum of the fun I've had on here...and I don't want that to happen.

Also, I really hate talking about my personal life, but I feel as though I need to bring up a few things.

The past four years have not been kind to me. This year has been the least kind of those four years. I had to move very suddenly and VERY messily with the help of a few friends. I had a LOT of mental health struggles and ongoing depression and a very bleak outlook on my life. I've figured out a lot of things alone that I shouldn't have had to. Most of this year I have been living in survival mode, just taking it day by day. THIS is why I have been ten times more sporadic and unable to hold down any kind of consistency when it comes to my social medias, thus making me feel worse and eventually leading to a horrible art burnout where it just hurt to pick up my pen. (Said burnout is over, but it did happen recently.)

I'll reblog where I'm moving to in a day or two and leave it pinned, honestly I'm tired right now and it's the night of my birthday so I don't want to spend any more time overthinking.

I'm trying to stay positive, I've still got ongoing baggage but I'm trying to learn how to carry it gracefully rather than keep waiting for a lake to dump it in.

Dude, keep track of your cats (Warriors)

Okay....I just want to get something off my chest for a moment.

I love the Warriors series as much as the next guy/girl/gentleperson/edgy adolescent, but hot damn when it comes to the inconsistencies.

I get it, Erin Hunter is a team of people. I get it, not everyone is going to be on the same page when it comes to how things should be. While one member of the team might claim that someone has a certain pelt color, eye color, you name it, another member might disagree or throw out a contradictory opinion. Which, in a general sense, I don’t feel the urge to spit on. It’s their series and they can do whatever they want with it. 

However, I feel that this raises some problems. When you call into question even the most basic details, (or in some cases flat out forget), it can cause problems later down the line. Coat color or eye color is an identifier, it helps us tell who a cat is without flat out saying the cat’s name. It’s been used as a plot point before, even if just a minor one. Familial ties (yes, these have been confused, there was a whole issue with a page of one of the novels FORGETTING who Graystripe’s kits were), are important for more obvious reasons. 

I would almost be able to excuse some of these things away if it weren’t for the fact that Warriors is HEAVILY character focused. You read the books for the cats involved, you have to be invested in the characters to really latch on to the story. So why do these same errors keep happening, if so much thought and care are clearly being put into these characters otherwise?

In all likelihood, the main reason could be the increase in number of characters. There’s an astronomical difference between the number of characters now vs Into the Wild. But then even that raises the question- why not (and yes, this is going to sound mean) get rid of more of the characters that don’t matter? (You don’t have to worry about Podlight if he’s dead!) 

Literally killing that many characters off in a literal sense would probably be a bad idea. But figuratively? You could have some cats leave their respective clans due to extenuating circumstances and not return, shift characters around into, let’s face it, Thunderclan, that need more attention in terms of story and vice versa to the other Clans, OR EVEN (please forgive me if this is outdated, I’m only halfway into the second-newest arc) have the 5-Clan setup challenged altogether in favor of a new setup. It might not be a welcome change to start, but there are endless possibilities when breaking the previously thought “set in stone” rules of the Warriors universe. 

All that to say, keep track of your characters. Just thinking off the cuff, a Google Doc might help. Share it with everyone on the team. Anyone on the team can edit, everyone can see it. 

Smoothing out the details helps keep the story flowing without hitting snares. Readers need a clear, concise picture. Most people aren’t going to want to play the game of “are Crowfeather’s eyes blue or brown” because it’s frustrating and it doesn’t need to be a debatable topic. 

This is all just constructive criticism. I wish Warriors could kick the bad habit of character details getting all mixed around. That’s all.
