going to the (archery) range on tuesday! after forever!!
Before yesterday I was chalking up my failure to hit targets on SO MANY THINGS. At yesterdays ranking however, I realized it was okay to blame your equipment.
My bow is 48"....thats 4'. Compared to my 5'nothing self it is indeed quite a large bow. Most horsebows are half that size. I dont really know WHY I chose my bow but as a ground archery bow its AMAZING! Shoots clean and no vibration.
As a mounted archery bow.....it needs at least a foot taken off its length. When I draw back I either hit the saddle/horse or I sacrifice the power of my full draw (which I need to keep my arrows straight) so as not to hit the horse. Another option is shooting sideways but I dont want to get into bad habits.
So tomorrow I'm ordering a short fiberglass Tatar from Alibow to see how I like the size of it for horseback. Theyre cheap and I can always hand it down to baby sister when/if I decide to get an $800 Saluki bow
First major equipment upgrade of the year accomplished! Found a deal on a used set on archery talk ☺️🎯
I went shooting today, out of 13 arrows I got 4 in the center, 2 out of the aim (and one the string ripped along my arm so ouch,I didn’t forget the bruises I suffered six years ago-) and most of the others grouped in the blue/black parts of the aim :)
It was my first time shooting with my new hunting bow, and I didn’t seriously do any archery in six years so it was very good!
