For what it’s worth, I have to agree with @lynmars79 in one of their earlier comments: my guess is that the writers set up a broader plot point for Laurentius and Yuyuhase and had to abandon it due to time constraints. That doesn’t excuse the consequences of this scene’s implications or reception, but it doesn’t seem to have come from deliberate antipathy.
But I feel you. Personally, I loved 4.0. It had its share of problems, and I can understand why plenty of others didn’t enjoy it or take issue with the writing. But to me, it’s the post-4.0 main scenario of Stormblood that was so frustrating, in no small part because it either did nothing for or went back on so many of the - in my opinion - incredible portrayals of deeply nuanced themes.
