Planning Your Book
You don’t have to plan your book before you start writing. Many authors do plan their manuscripts using premises, templates, and outlines because they want to write for a living. For indie authors, this generally means producing well-groomed, complete works multiple times each year. It’s not uncommon for full-time indie authors to publish books four to six times per year. Some authors publish even more frequently than that (such as one new book released every month). It becomes harder to write and produce quality books at this frequency without establishing some form of planning and organization for each project. Planning your work before you start writing it can have a big impact on the reading experience you provide to your customers. And when your customers love reading your work, they buy more of it and make sure their friends, co-workers, social media followers, clients, family members, and book club members know about your writing, too. As someone who plans out each of my own pieces, I’d be remiss if I didn’t share this strategy with you (whether you decide to take advantage of it or not).
