Creature idea for Subnautica Arctic DLC
Ive been looking for the news about this arctic dlc and i got an idea that im kind of too shy to talk about on the official discord page.
So, arctics. Obviously very cold. We will most likely have a thermal suit of some sort. But what if in the coldest biome in the arctic zone, it wasnt enough to keep us warm? And what if there were floater-like creatures that were attached to the walls or the ocean floor that we would have to go inside to get our body heat up a little?
But if the ocean is too deep, it might start getting warm again, getting close to the core. I am not good enough at geography to think if it is possible on earth oceans except for the volcanoes, let alone imagining it on an alien planet but 4546B seems like a small planet so it might be possible. So, maybe instead of floater-like things, we get a reefback type of a creature that can actually move.
Let me elaborate. Maybe, during the nights when the water is the coldest, those creatures stay still. They sleep. And we can wait inside their bodies (maybe an actual stomach or another sack that humans can fit into, kinda like the whale mom in flapjack) until it is morning again. We have to catch them eating to be able to get inside. The next morning, we have to disturb them or trigger their gag reflex to get out unless they are awake and eating again. Maybe the sack is semi-transparent like the green sacks of reefbacks so we can see outside(not a great idea thermal-wise). Another way to get out is to rip/cut off the skin of the sack, if you dont care about animals in the game or if the creature is under attack.
Seems like it could have been interesting and quite useful before we make a submarine. Basically a living seamoth with a brain of its own.
What sucks is that if the Arctic DLC for Subnautica is slated for release in early 2019, there’s no way it’s going to be all that detailed, big (space/scale-wise), or long (time-wise). It took years for the main game to be completed, and they’re planning to release a DLC this relatively early after it was finished?
I’m happy we’re getting fresh content so soon, but I kinda wish the DLC would be... more, in general (again, detail, space/scale, and length).
