Assembly Surface Areas & an iLogic Hack
Assembly Surface Areas & an iLogic Hack
Back in 2015, I wrote a blog post detailing some best practice around calculating assembly surface areas for paint or coatings, sadly this post has disappeared from the interwebs, but I did include a reference to it in my AU London class “Need for Speed: 102 Productivity Hacks for Inventor”
The Area iProperty of an Inventor assembly, is a sum of all of the surface areas, of all of the parts in…

Version 4.7 for iOS released to the App Store
OK folks our new mobile app went live into iTunes this morning.
UI tweaks to improve the user experience
New Dropbox SDK added
iOS 7 Keyboard bug "squashed"
Download it for iPhone and iPad here
How your feedback shaped SketchAndCalc 4
Precise Line Length Input
Don, Ben, Jason, Jose, Moses and Denise wanted to "enter the exact length of sides" instead of drawing the approximate distance between two points and using the cursor keys to fine tune.
For this one I adopted the same approach used in the iPhone / iPad app. Clicking the line length label now displays the numeric keypad icon, which also indicates the direction the line will move. Clicking the length label again toggles the direction, changing the nominated (highlighted) vertex.
Once the desired length has been entered with the keyboard the change can be submitted by clicking anywhere on the canvas. This should be used for fine tuning after the basic shape is complete. It's now possible for exact values to be reached.
Area of Curved Shapes
Brad wanted "line types as in arcs etc". And Denise wanted to "bend lines".
We've added a drawing toolbar to the canvas. It features a number of new tools such as the freehand drawing tool, enabling users to switch between drawing straight and curved lines.
I'm super excited about this one!
Undo and Printing
Enrique, Ahmed, Karen, Liga and Ed wanted an Undo command, and to be able to Print.
Pro users can now Print and use the Undo / Redo button in the new toolbar.
Magnification of the Canvas
Saud and Dave wanted "the ability to zoom in/out".
A new Zoom In and Zoom Out button has been added to the toolbar. Allowing users to magnify the canvas, providing finer control and more accurate results.
Canvas Panning
Karen needs canvas panning "because I can't go further down the page".
Canvas panning whilst zoomed in is now possible. A manual panning tool can be accessed from the new toolbar.
Manually Enter Canvas Scale
Karen and Bob wanted to enter a drawing scale with the keyboard without using the up/down buttons.
It's now possible to highlight the canvas scale in the top toolbar and enter a numeric value.
Improved Results Display
Matthew, Rob and Tom wanted area and perimeter results displayed in the drawing measurement system, not rounded when a whole number is reached.
Roll-over the results in the bottom right corner now displays all measurement systems. Not just the measurement system used for drawing.
Free Trial
Anonymous wanted to be able to trial the Pro features of SketchAndCalc before purchasing.
Clicking the Pro tool pallet now prompts users, not already logged in, to use the full features for a limited time.
Hide / Show line lengths
Horea wanted to switch off the display of line lengths that overlapped complex shapes. Giving him better visibility when adjusting the shape.
The centrex of a closed shape now toggles the line length labels on or off. This prevents the labels overlapping and obscuring the shape.
A BIG THANKS
Thanks to all those that have invested "brain sweat" into our lill app. We couldn't have done it without your feedback!
Particular thanks to Horea Burca for his tenacity and tireless efforts. Thank you my friend!
Cheers
