“Solarpunk isn’t even ‘punk’ & it seems dumb bc there’s no conflict or bad guys lol XD”
- NO CONFLICT ™ \/
- NO BAD GUYS ™ \/
- NOT EVEN PUNK ™ \/
If you really want to see some more Palpable Punk™ before you care about solarpunk, here you go: fuck you for thinking a story has to be dystopian to “have conflict” and “be worthwhile.” Fuck you for overlooking our present-day broken planet with broken cultures and broken economic systems.
fuck you for thinking a story is only good when it’s a caricature of your sick fascination with the literal worst possible future you could imagine. Here’s a fucking pro tip: you’re not fascinated by the end of it all when you watch The Walking Dead or play Fallout—you’re fascinated by the idea of making the best out of a worst situation; the idea of starting over and using hope to survive and find a better way. Guess what solarpunk is, you fucking dolt?
So fuck you for thinking I have to say fuck you like a “true punk™” before you’ll give a damn about the solarpunk version of the same hope you look for in all your post-apocalyptic fantasies.
Solarpunk is about starting over NOW despite the odds against the climate and the people suffering in this world. Solarpunk is about not waiting until everything goes to shit like you apparently love to do in your sick fantasies about your own future. If you have the privilege to “prefer” a horrible, dismal apocalypse over the idea of a better future, why don’t you donate some of your Netflix money to the millions living today who would give anything to hear a tale of hope, equality and environmental sustainability before they die protecting their children and trying to leave behind a good future for them?
Maybe you’d read a solarpunk story if I reminded you that we literally are in a social, political and environmental apocalypse right now and solarpunk *is* the fucking starting over you obsess over in Mad Max and all your “has conflict” stories you think are so much better than what solarpunk could be.
fuck you if you brush solarpunk aside because it’s not disastrous enough for you and your cynically masturbatory palate. Idea: swallow your adversity-craving privilege and support a movement that’s trying to inspire environmental, cultural and economic hope in the millions of people who don’t have that privilege—or proper food—to swallow.
Are we punk yet?!
