Cognitive dissonance is a hard task. It seems that on a particular topic, no matter what happens, it seems the first impression or belief “sticks” to our psyche, and is a large influencer of our beliefs. This has been shown innumerable times in innumerable studies. What we learn first is what we believe, even if it’s wrong, and even if we are told (and proved) it is wrong.
Although the ultimate defense is to have awareness of this and consciously keep an open mind by suspending your beliefs (askeptic), this takes energy and conscious awareness.
I pity those who were shown/taught all the wrong/bad things first before the good. Their actions and beliefs will be founded in this and they may seem difficult or corrupt in their mannerism.
