Time to “monitor” #TongueOutTuesday 😜 #AnimalFact: Similar to snakes, many lizard species use their tongue to gather microscopic particles. However, despite popular myths they are not tasting the air. The tongue brings those particles to the roof of the mouth where the Jacobson’s organ (also called a vomeronasal organ) is located. The Jacobson’s organ is part of the olfactory system, that is made up of sensory cells just like the ones we use to smell something.
