Summary:
Steve was barely responding and was flat on his back, and Bucky was at their bedside crying. Steve ran his fingers through Bucky’s hair in a poor attempt to comfort him. “‘S okay, Buck,” he weakly smiled, and Bucky couldn’t help but smile back. Steve was dying, and he was comforting Bucky.
“You gotta pull through, okay, Stevie?” Bucky pleaded. “You’re my best friend. My fella. My hen pecker,” Bucky choked a laugh. “I can’t live without you,” he took Steve’s hand in his and held it close to him. Bucky pressed his lips to Steve’s knuckles and kissed them. Steve groaned and looked at Bucky. he smiled as tears fell down his eyes. Steve didn’t even have the energy to make a quip or reply. “I love you. I love you so much, please-” his voice cracked and cut off before he broke down sobbing.

Steve had been sick as always. The cold and his weak immune system just made every winter hell for the both of them.
In 1939, It started as a simple sickness. They thought Steve would soon get over eventually turned into something more serious.
