"Why?"

            "You needed a hero, everyone needed a hero." He looked out the window at the clouds of a gathering storm, "Something had to be done."

            "Everyone? Including yourself?"

            "It didn't matter. The hero they wanted wasn't coming." His eyes narrowed as he spoke, the foggy reminiscence of the past cleared from them and the hard edge returned.

            "Who was the hero they wanted?"

            Ryan's lips twitched in a half smile, "Someone infallible, inhuman, someone who has a great love and fights anyway. I am not that person, I cannot be a ghost."
